I used to buy Ambipur and similar refills and other gel type perfumes like My Shaldon periodically to maintain a fragrant car interior. But the high cost and the reduced effect of Ambipur refills made me think of some cheaper alternatives and I had come out with a DIY refilling. This method has come out well and I am sharing it here for a try by T Bhpians.

I purchased a small bottle of Pemium Eau De Cologne costing less than Rs 65.
This can then be filled into empty Ambipur bottle and Voila you have a better than original refill.
I used it and found to be very effective and the cost of one refill is less than Rs 5.

I would use this trick to refill Godrej aer. I don't seem to find the right stock fragrance for my car. I have used Pemium earlier and it smells good.

Nice trick indeed! Along with one gets options to tailor make fragrances (not to mention the cost saving!).
I don't use AC most of times and the stock ones don't give a good effect. I think, stock perfumes are designed to be used in A/C only mode. This method should give a bit of leverage to try out less viscous and more fragrant ones for my need!

Good one Sir. I faced the same problem. I used to refill Ambipur with potpourri oils. The good thing is that only a small amount of this is required as the smell is really strong. It would last for months and the smell is much better than Ambipur products.

At 100Rs for 5ml, the car-purfumes are possbily as expensive as pefumes/EDTs for humans.

One question: The Ambi Pur lasts for 30 days. How long does same quantity of Eau De Cologne last? My belief is that Cologne evaporates much faster. What was your experience?

You are correct in saying that the cologne will evaporate quicker than the Ambipur liquid. I counter this by adding acetone to the perfume, acetone is a clear, odorless liquid & would not alter the perfume's character at all.
I picked up a small bottle of Armani & added acetone to it & that small bottle of perfume has lasted me for 4 months & running now.

Just a word of caution, some of the perfumes may be highly inflammable.

I had around 5 bottles of which only one was used for car. Dont think I have those bottles with me. Will update you if I get to find the brand.
Mind you, these potpourri oils are really strong. So use little and keep the Ambipur blower at min.

PS - I got these oils from @home. Check the store.

Hi Rajeev, Nice DIY.
I have been doing this on my mosquito repellent liqidator. The catridges have a different thread pattern for different brands and everytime i buy a new one, I always forget the make of unit at home. I end up buying the one on some offer like buy 1 & get 2 or something like that. At home I pry open both the new one & the empty one from the machine & refill the empty one in the same manner as you did.

I keep deodorant and spray in the morning or as and when required
Said bye bye to these bottles after it leaked and stained my dashboard.

I am using Fogg these days I hope it will last atleast one year as bottle says it has 800 sprays.

PS : If using this method and opting for female one kindly use the one used by your better half to avoid confusion

While carrying aerosol cans (e.g. a deo spray) in the car one has to be very careful. I have personally seen one case where a friend's brand new swift needed a windshield and dashboard replacement when the car-spray kept on the dashboard exploded due to heat (car was parked in the sun).

Thanks to all. My first refill lasted for a month nothing less. If the branded perfume is new, dilute it as mentioned. The effect would be better on both counts, fragrance and duration wise.

Yep you are right. Till now I was using nearly empty bottle but this time I kept new one
Yes I need to be careful if I am parking it direct sunlight for long time.
