I was thinking, wouldn't the key repair shops have these rubber/plastic material buttons for the keys readily available with them? Instead of using these rubber tubes and pencil eraser, if those parts are available in open market, they may be a better option.

Since the designs of each manufacturer or vendor isnt uniform, its very difficult for spare parts or buttons to be available any where else other than the manufacturer itself.

Today I attempted a DIY fix on my Nippon remote of the SX4 which wasnt working. Basically it was due to a crack in the solder which caused the remote to become non functional. The issue was solved after I resoldered the key component, ie the oscillator.

The remote of my SX4 keeps hitting the surrounding panels when the car goes over bumpy patches which keeps causing this problem. Now I am considering replacing the remote itself with the one that comes inbuilt in the key. This stays in one place and doesnt get damaged.

in my case, the metal key is fixed to the case, containing the immobilizer circuit. so if the case is damaged then it has to be entirely changed to new one, transferring the circuit to new one. The metal key needs to be grooved with correct 'levers' for it to function when circuit is faulty! The just previously mentioned method at store, worth Rs.1200.

Also I noticed in my vehicle, when the vehicle is locked with remote (not metal key), then later if I try to open with key (manually), the alarm goes off! Service Adviser at workshop spoke this of correct logic - the mode of opening & closing needs to be same. So, if lets say the remote doesnt work (battery dead or circuit kaput), then close with key and then open with key; the alarm may not be problem.

I have a DZire with Nippon Remote. The backup remote is not working even though the green light flashes on it. It is not a battery problem either. The M.A.S.S. guys tried to get away with it saying the button is a little loose. But I know it is not. Can you please share what you checked and what you did?

Try to swap the batteries between the two remotes just to make sure its not the battery. If that doesn't help, you may need to reprogram the remote as possibly it was never programmed well or may have lost the programming. If the auto-lock system is not from the car manufacturer, you can look for the guide online or on the manufacturer's website. You may need to follow some series of steps to program the remote yourself. In case autolock is ties to ECU, you would need help of OBD scanner.

I have been searching across quite few places for the Xylo remote key shell, but couldnt find.

two days back, I found it being sold on ebay; more so some ebay sale was going on, plus I had the 7% disc code by Vodafone bill payment. waiting no further I have ordered below items :

the silicon cover is of good quality and easy fit, it will save the rubber keypads.

the new key shell's blade needs to be cut, which I went to key stall within hyper-city mall (Ghodbunder, Thane). The guy was surprised of me getting these things "online", as he couldnt source it for me since all these months!

The cutting was done on the machine just within few minutes, I paid him 300/-. the guy checked the new shell with manual lock/unlock (since it didnt contain the circuit yet), it worked well.

then the guy inserted the new key in ignition slot and turn-up - wait! the car wont start, because the transponder chip isnt detected in key! this security feature of the vehicle prevents starting with duplicate key. I had the original key with me anyways, which I tried with, but still the car didnt start. The solution - just leave the car locked for 10 minutes, and again try with original key. It worked. Requesting other users to keep this point in mind.

Next task was the migration of circuit & transponder chip from old key to new shell. Overall its a pretty easy task, just ensure that all parts are handled delicately and fitted well in the new case. Also, the transponder chip (sensor) is glued in the original key, which needs to be very delicately removed - i gently used a blade. Migrated these parts in new case, but didnt use glue to stick the chip - hoping that it wont move in a closed case.
