Fortunately, because the car's carpet area was exactly symmetrical about the centre line, the mats fit properly without issues. Someone here has made a mention of it but I shall say it again - if you are taking the template from the carpet side, do not forget to turn it upside down before cutting the mat from the flat side.

Here are some snaps. Pardon the quality. Clicked them at night!

Pretty clear from this snap, that the mats are symmetrical.

Thanks to dinu once again!
Looks really neat, but could you explain the problem. I am a newbie and could not understand it that well.

After you make the newspaper template, for cutting the mat you flip it over so that the flat side is up. When cutting ensure that the newspaper template is also flipped over when doing the marking on the flat side of the mat. However, if both sides of the car are exact mirror image of each other, you will not have a problem even if you don't flip over the template.
Hope I'm making sense.

Hey Dinu,

I am new to this forum and just found this post. This is treatment is just what the doctor ordered. Amazing DIY work and many thanks for taking the time to post it. A couple of months back i was with my friend when he bought the 3M ones for his new car, i liked them, but i thought i wouldn't pay so much for floor mats.
So now my swift gets these DIY mats too.. will finish the project and post pics too. Cheering:

Re: DIY - 3M Nomad-Style Floor Mats

I picked up about about 30ft.

The ones I got are very similar to the 3m ones, Quite heavy and sturdy. With this I plan to do about 3 cars.
Total cost -> less then 2,300.

Similar ones from 3m would have easily exceeded Rs 15,000

Re: DIY - 3M Nomad-Style Floor Mats

Hello All,
Is it possible to order vinyl loop mat from online ( other than 3M Nomad brand).
I am looking to use this for my car and could not find any online site from my Googling efforts. Also have searched usual sites ( snadeal, homeshop 18, flipkart etc ) but no luck.

Also it will be great if somebody can guide where loop mats are available in Ahmedabad.

Thanks in advance.
JLS

That link is for 3M Nomad mats which are very expensive. This thread is about cheaper unbranded mats.

I think I know what this thread is about, thanks.

The link has the same 3M mats at a fraction of the cost of what 3M stores charge.

Hey man, relax. I didn't mean to be offensive but in hurry just stated it as a matter of fact. Let me check that link again, maybe I read it wrong.

I want to buy a 10 feet roll like most of the guys on this thread.

DRIV3R, the cost Rs. 110 per sq.ft seems way more than what we can get for in market. I got for 60 bucks in chennai and 80 bucks in bangalore. Infact i didnt go to wholesale store in blore, else i would have got for much cheaper than Rs. 80.

This is the difference pedaltothefloor was refering to i presume.

The ones in the market, are they from 3M? I don't think so. If it is 3M for a fact, great!

I havent seen the 3M low duty mats in flesh, hence I can't comment on whether the ones which I got are equivalent or not.

But I'm sure which I got are good enough to last much longer than the typical car mats.
