Inspired by you and this thread, I managed to open the meter console of my Chevy Beat (Tcdi: LT Version: Jan 2012). I did solder the tact switch as mentioned in this thread but nothing has happened. No distance to empty signal, no avg speed or Outside temp signal as well.

I dont know what to do next. I tried every possibility to it and even tried different tact switches but it all went in vain.

Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks guys.

Oh.. It is unfortunate that the feature didn't work for you.

Is there a chance that diesel variant does not have this feature?
Or
GM removed the feature from latest versions?

All of us did with me were having petrol versions.

Whoever is doing this, please get it checked by removing the button without opening the console and using a wire.

This is a great discovery!! I used to wonder about the DTE sign and the avg km/hr on my DIY.
But I feel we, the diesel Beat owners are unlucky. The petrol Beat shares its engine and tune and all that stuff with the American version. But the diesel was specially made for India (I guess), so thats why only the petrol owners will be able to unlock their DIYs. GM could have atleast enabled the feature for the petrol version, maybe they will with their next upgrade.
On a completely OT stuff, I really like the speedo console of the Chevy Sonic (Google it). Sonic, by every measure looks like the elder sibling of the Beat, wish GM could bring it here and pitch it against i20/Swift, but they brought the idiotic Sail-UVA instead.

Now that is a difficult situation

Did any Beat Petrol users tried DIY in their car which they bought post Beat Diesel launch?

Did GM altogether removed the hardware from Beat Diesel to save some bucks?

Cheers!

My Beaty too got minor facelift

It was quite easy than expected.

Thanks a ton to @salbin, @Soumyajit9, @ramkris and of course the Russian guy

Also special thanks to my better-half who gave me a company and helped me with torch/lighting, tools, suggestions, etc.

Re: Chevrolet Beat DIY - Unlocking Features in the Speedo console

I am from Pune and would be more than willing to try this mod on my Beat LT, though I am not good with the nuts and bolts stuff.

Do you know anyone in Mumbai who does such mod job?

PS: read that it can be done on PS too! Anyone in Pune adventurous enough to do this mod? I will join you.

Re: Chevrolet Beat DIY - Unlocking Features in the Speedo console

Beat owners in Bangalore, there are a few guys who are attempting this mod in their Beats, and have a few spare switches. Please PM me for details if anyone wants a switch.

Re: Chevrolet Beat DIY - Unlocking Features in the Speedo console

Great find!

I am willing to do this mod on my brother's Beat LS, but sadly the switches mentioned in the link in OP are sold out. I'm unable to find these switches elsewhere on Ebay.

Can these be ordered from elsewhere? Or a BHP'ian left with some spare switches?

OMG! 778!
You should have been driving in a highway with extremely good FE (22~25kmpl) just few minutes before fueling.
This may be the reason behind GM masking the feature.

This kind of huge difference in figures from vehicle to vehicle will only make their service guys run mad, if it was given by GM.

The details of total journey is as follows:
Photo-1: City~79 kms, Highway~197 kms (Clicked after ~13 kms City driving)
Chevrolet Beat DIY - Unlocking Features in the Speedo console-1.jpg

Photo-2: City~107 kms, Highway~263 kms (Clicked after ~13 kms City driving)
Chevrolet Beat DIY - Unlocking Features in the Speedo console-2.jpg

Photo-3: City~178 kms, Highway~395 kms (Clicked after ~13 kms City driving)
Chevrolet Beat DIY - Unlocking Features in the Speedo console-3.jpg

Photo-4: City~212 kms, Highway~395 kms (Clicked after ~34 kms City driving)
Chevrolet Beat DIY - Unlocking Features in the Speedo console-4.jpg

Photo-5: City~217 kms, Highway~395 kms (Clicked after ~39 kms City driving, just afetr refuelling till auto-cut)
Chevrolet Beat DIY - Unlocking Features in the Speedo console-5.jpg

For Total ~ 613 kms (City~217kms & Highway~396 kms) 29.3 l petrol was consumed; FE~21 kmpl

Very true; huge difference in figures from vehicle to vehicle would have certainly made Chevrolet service guys run mad. Therefore Chevrolet likely have masked the feature.
