Any pointers to check for a bad battery or a dying one?

I'll go through the link that you posted.

Re: DIY Install & Review - The Mini 0806 Dash Camera

If it does not hold charge, you can open the camera to check the battery has puffed up. Puffed up or not, if it isn't capable of holding charge anymore, it should be replaced.

Edit:

I suggest that you to let it be for now, open it up and investigate in case the error get frequent or any other issue crops up.

Quoting my own post for reference

As it was displaying, 'Need Format', I did go ahead and format the card.

Hey buddy this Need Format is getting regular now a days, almost 4 times a week.

It stops recording on its own and displays no SD card is inserted, "Need format".

Recently like a few days back, I had a literal close call and after I was out of the trauma, first thing I checked to see if things were recorded for my safety and proof. Sadly it was displaying "Need format" and the last recording saved was 2 days old.

I am planning to chuck this dashcam and get something more reliable. How do you recommend - "Street Guardian SG9665GC"?!

I have read your thread on the install too.

Even I have been using SG9665GC - documented here.

When I did the research for a dashcam, this was the best I could find both in terms of reliability and video quality. I think this camera is also backed up by solid technical support, which you can see from their forums.

Right now, this camera is selling for 209$ including a 64GB SD card and CP filter. This is a very good deal, and I would greatly recommend this camera.

Yes. I and Harsh are using this camera. Here is the amazon US link to the camera with 64GB memory and the CP filter.

https://www.amazon.com/Street-Guardi...treet+guardian

It has $83 overhead for shipping and duty for India. It would be cheaper if you have someone hand carry it from the US.

The battery inside your 0806 needs to be replaced.

I've had the GC for 8 months now, it has been a reliable performer and hasn't missed or corrupted a single recording till date.

They have the V3 out now. An upgraded lens, a pre-flipped GPS receiver and an inclusive CPL filter are some of the changes.

I got mine off eBay Australia and a friend traveling back from Perth carried it for me, ended up saving quite a bit on shipping.

If you're looking to get it shipped, the only option is -

https://www.amazon.com/Street-Guardi.../dp/B00U0OJMYG

You could also look at the A119S from VIOFO. It has the newer 2MP IMX291 sensor and is better in low light, does 60 FPS too. Street Guardian also has a model or two with IMX291 under development.

If most of your driving is during the day, you could also look at the regular A119, it has the same 4MP OV4689 sensor that's in your Mini.

I've been testing the A119S for the past few days, attaching a few sample videos -

Comparison with the GC (no street lights and headlights turned off in between)

Shipped as I have no friend/anyone known coming to India from foreign. :(

Mixed share. 1 week day time and 1 week night time. Each week is 700 kms.

Should work fine after the battery is replaced. Even if you plan on switching to a different model, you can still change the battery and use it a a rear camera or put it to some other use.

The Mini produces great video during the day (not bad at night either), but fails miserably IMO when it comes to reliability.

As long as you don't get a lemon, the capacitor powered A119, A119S and the SG9665GC shouldn't give you any grief on the reliability front. Just use a Transcend or Lexar MLC card and a quality power supply (if not using the included one) and I don't think there should any hiccups.

Here's a comparison of the A119 and the S version, should make things easier to decide.

Both are better than the Mini at night.

The camera is built and finished well.

With the firmware in its first iteration giving such results (especially at night), I'm very impressed! Things are going to get only better.

Where can I get the VIOFO A119S dashcam in India. Could you specify your source or any information as to where it is available in India concentric in particular to Hyderabad if possible (as I am from Hyderabad) that might help me.

Thanks and regards.

Not available locally in India. Currently nor does AE, GB or BG have it in stock.

It's available on eBay.com and foxoffer only as of now (directly from China).

Re: DIY Install & Review - The Mini 0806 Dash Camera

Dear a4anurag

I have been following your story of Dashcam and i need your help.

I want to buy one reliable dashcam which has following features
1. Captures good video quality (can read number plates and see colours)
2. Can capture video when car is parked
3. Decent capture quality in Bad light/too much light
4. Good if it can record co-ordinates also
5. Doesn't shake too much when car is in bad/no roads
6. Budget Rs 10 K

I have uploaded few clips of my vacation which were capture using an old Samsung S4 phone, using Dashcam software. Please see the video link below. I wanted you to base my requirement based on the videos and come up with something which can be an improvement upon them.

Waiting for your response..

Sincere apologies for the late response on your query. Somehow your post slipped out of the updates I receive.

Looking at your requirements, I can think of Viofo A119 dashcam.

Check AliExpress and GearBest for best deals and get it.

After much deliberation and Net surfing i have made up my mind to buy the Dashcam as suggested by you from Aliexpress. I have added the GPS and CPL and the cost is 93.51 USD.

Kly suggest if i should go for it at the suggested cost.

You can. Please go ahead it is a good dash camera.

I am confused between this one and Street Guardian SG9665GC. Tired with the MINI 0806 issue of getting an error on its own.
