Perhaps the controller is faulty, after the refund is initiated, remove controller from circuit and check LEDs with a 12v supply, if they are good you can get a RGB controller with remote from local market in 60 INR. Connect your LEDs to that and you are good to go.

Don't throw away the controller, you can scavenge it for parts for future DIYs.
Thank you, I did get a refund without returning them. I'll the DIY you mentioned and also explore a connection straight to the cabin lamp.

Re: D.I.Y. Install: LED Footwell Lighting

Hello Guys,

I am trying to install similar LED lights in my Zest with the theatre dimming effect. I have opened up the cabin lights cover. But can't figure out how to remove the whole assembly.
Any zest owner has tried this before?
Any pointers would be helpful.

You will need to pry those four slots between the grey housing and the inner portion.
It should come out then and you will have access to the main wires connecting the bulb holders.

Nope, behind these you can see a small slot, Those need to be pried to open. I believe its a plastic cover that's press fitted, so prying those four small tiny slots will open your access to the wires.Use a small screwdriver and gently do it.

Secondly this entire unit is usually flush mounted, so you should be able to remove the entire housing if you try to pull it out gently.

Thanks for the quick replies. I will have to check, but the red arrows you marked, that's where the plastic cover was fitted(which I pried open) .those slots are only for the cover,as far as I think.

Ok so in that case you need to look at the areas marked with green arrows.

Re: D.I.Y. Install: LED Footwell Lighting

So finally I was able to pull out the assembly. The connections see pretty straightforward.
I guess I need to connect the wires to the two spots highlighted below.
Any idea about the +ve and -ve. The bottom one was connect to the red wire.
Also now my biggest dilemma is how to bring the wire down. Do I need to remove the headliner/side beads.
Sorry to ask so many questions,it is my first DIY on my Car.

Bottom one has to be +ve, toggle switch and door side switch / sensor are -ve operated.

Side beading - Yes,
Headliner - you don't have to remove them, use the spring wire to route the cable.

Re: D.I.Y. Install: LED Footwell Lighting

In most of the cars usually red is positive. You could try a simple method. connect a wire to the red and connect this wire to a bulb, use another wire and connect that to the other side of the bulb, now use this wire to connect to any good clean body bolt. If your bulb lights up then you have found your positive and negative. U can also use a multi-meter for the same.
To route the wires remove the side beading/plastic cladding. Slightly pull the headliner and using a stiff metal wire/hanger rod which is made straight you can now route your wires, makes sure you use good quality wires. It will take some patience but it will eventually happen so keep trying. It took me almost 2-hours to push the wires through my sx4 because they seemed to somehow get lost in the headliner. So be patient.

Like scorpion said, red one is the +ve but you can connect your led strip either way, if polarity is correct, that is +ve connected to +ve and -ve connected to -ve, Led strip will lit up, if it doesn't reverse the connections. There will be no damage.

Re: D.I.Y. Install: LED Footwell Lighting

Looks brilliant and i want to do the same on my Grand i10. My cabin light does have that theatre dimming effect when i close and lock the doors. Any suggestion on a not too bright 4000k LED i can order online with wires ? Would prefer something durable and compact and not a big strip as i anyway want just a little lighting on the front footwell areas only. I will connect it to the cabin light under the RVM and not use any switch etc.

You can order from aliexpress, will cost like 10 USD. Those come with an IR remote using which you can change color and even control brightness.

Those require use of the ciggy charger plug and when i asked the seller if we can cut the wire and install, he said it wont work that way. Anyway i ordered some cheap led drl from amazon and will be installing them today.
