Probably because he thought you would cut off the LED strip from the controller. You can cut the charger and plug the controller (or even LEDs) directly into any 12v supply. I had done the same( used one of those readymade kit and cut off the cigrate lighter plug) in one of my cars while in other I bought led strip and controller separately and soldered them, which happened to be a lot cheaper and allowed me to have led strip length of my choice.

Anyways the DRLs you bought from Amazon will be a lot bright. You will have to add resistors if, like you said, you want not so bright lights in cabin.

Okay. I thought the charger is the controller as there is no other box after that. So unless the leds are 12v as well it may not work. Anyway here is a picture of my setup, they turn on and off with the cabin light. Still to figure out how to secure the wire as currently its taped up around the footwell area.

All of those kits available online are 12v compatible.

You can run the wire from dome light to footwell through A or B pillar like anurag has mentioned.

I have done a similar modification in my Creta. Here's the link to the post.

Used a ready-made wiring kit that was from AliExpress but I cut off the 12V socket and box that controls the light colour. Link has all details and images of the DIY.

Re: D.I.Y. Install: LED Footwell Lighting

Installed on my swift too.

They light up and turn off similar to dome light.

Higher exposure on camera makes the red much brighter but to the eye they're much dimmer.

Re: D.I.Y. Install: LED Footwell Lighting

Hey Guys,
The footwell light kit which i bought (https://www.amazon.in/Kardeck-Decora...=1&ext_vrnc=hi) suddenly stopped working after i removed the plug from cigar light pocket and put it back. No amount of trys for making it work failed. What could be the issue?

Thanks.

Hello @samaspire , I have a doubt with the wiring for footwell lighting . I want the same theatre effect in my ford freestyle . From my knowledge what i found out is that the

Purple color wire - +ve when door is opened and when locked its voltage value drops slowly checked the same with a multimeter
yellow color wire - always +ve and has 12v supply .
separate connector is bolted to the roof top as ground .

So have you taken tapping from the dome light or from the A pillar ?
if from dome light, is it correct that i take the tapping from the purple one for positive of the led strip ?

If from the A pillar there are 2 purple ones which should I take ?

Sorry, but I do not remember, and I have also sold the car, so can't check. Better ask Mr. Boss. He's the expert.

If you are looking for 'theater dimming' effect, I hope the +ve also to be taken from the cabin lamp, otherwise you may get it with a regular fuse tap.
Mr. Boss can you please explain the connection for theatre dimming effect , it will be helpful . In the above post of mine I have shared the photos and the connections over there .

It has to be the Gr-P (Grey Purple) wire, going by the lamp end connector and your multimeter check result.
