900W ~= 1.2 HP.
Does it start from standstill or do you have to nudge it forward a little ?

Re: DIY - Handmade Car (WIP)

Such a project was a dire need to breathe some new life in a forum which was known for DIYs, technical gurus and restoration enthusiasts. Their numbers have seriously come down over the years.

Great job for a hand-built piece, its simple structure should enable easy fine tuning for months, a perfect golf cart to punt around to the grocery shops as you've mentioned, should give many young mechanical enthusiasts a real world approach to automation.

The steering assembly and fine tuning of the wheel response should make for a good writeup. Do post more details as the build progresses.

My hand made "convertible"!
She is an EV, running on 48 V, 900W electric motor. Perfect for visits to your local tobacconist or milkman.

.
Awesome build.. just let us know the reaction of your tobacconist / milk man when you arrive in this 😋

Also do share some more details of how you fit it the electric motor to this ..

Re: DIY - Handmade Car (WIP)

This is just amazing! I was thinking of doing something similar and it is nice to see a fellow bhpian has built this. My justification for considering a vintage cart like build is that it will be inherently more simple to build a ladder frame than a spaceframe or monocoque, and with electric drivetrains, propulsion should not be too complex. Big respect to this labour of love and kudos to your wife for being part of this.

Great project!
I am curious about the steering mechanism. It would be helpful if you could share a few closeups of the same. Thanks.

Re: DIY - Handmade Car (WIP)

Looks wonderfully vintage.

Dumb question , but how do you steer it? the stick seems to be used for braking.

The color combination is fantastic and the India logo adds to the make in India message, this thing becomes and come so true to that message.

Hope you are able to get it registered and ride it legally on the roads.

I hope you can patent the design and make more and enter the Limca book of records.

Regards
RoS

Hey, this is truely 'Make in India'. You should share it with PM Narendra Modi on his twitter handle (@narendramodi).
