Hi Mithun
I too replaced the stock fog lamps with the FE Retrofit Projectors.
Let me know ho you went about getting the focus right.
Thanks, Vijay |
Sorry for the late reply. I found time last weekend to align the projectors correctly.
There is a black screw on projectors by which you can adjust up or down.
This needs to be done after loosening the main screws which hold the projector set up on to the bumper.
I had to use a washer on one side to get the alignment right. Please see the pic after alignment.
Great job with the brackets. Kindly share the dimensions of it.

I got a contraption made from a tinkerer but would love to have your design.
I have no way of adjusting the lights.

Sorry mate, I did not record the dimensions before installing it.
But I am sure that the outer circumference is same as that of stock bracket.
Imagine the stock bracket to be 2D and then mark the outer boundaries alone in a paper. You should be good.
Which projectors are those?

The fuse for fog lamp is rated for 10A. So I am assuming fog lamp wiring can handle load up to 120 Watt (Ohm's law P = W X I, 10A X 12V = 120W). Experts can correct me if I am wrong. |
I was not fully correct here. Foglamps are perfectly fine when the vehicle is idling or running. But occasionally the foglamp fuse got blown when foglamps were switched on without starting the Thar.
So I am inferring that even though the stock wiring can support till 120W assuming a max current draw of 10A, the initial load to power up the ballast is more than 120W which is causing the fuse to blow.
Hence I purchased the below relay from amazon.in and installed it.
https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It was not a direct plug and play as the foglamp connectors and relay connectors were different. So I tweaked relay connectors a bit to match with stock connectors.
Now everything seems sorted. I have taken Thar for few off-road trips were bumper was fully submerged in water. Did not face any issues related to water ingress so far with foglamps and its holding good!

Thank you! I got IPH with 75w HIDs

Great. Did you install it? Hows the performance?
Hope you got a relay also as its 75W.
Please share more details and pics.
I plan to DIY install iPHCar Bi-LED Projector fog lights, but the main issue is the Mounting.
If by any means I could fit the projector with the stock brackets, that would be good orelse making custom mounting brackets is not possible for me here.
Apart from the mounting brackets issue, can I use the stock wiring and plug with the LED projectors?
These LED projectors has four wires, so Two are for LED chips and two for the solenoid I guess.
So I could use a H16 female connector and use the Stock H16 plug?

what is the wattage of these? if its above stock rating, I would suggest to use a relay.
Initially I connected 55W HID's directly to stock wiring which was causing the fuse to blow at some times.
If its less than 20W, you may use H16 connector directly. It may be hard to source though.
I think you will have to fabricate custom brackets to install these or else get help from a local installer

Wattage is 40W as per the product description.
So, better to use a relay then.
Hello, If I happen to use a Relay Harness of the LED projector fog lamps, I will have to use a separate switch for the fog lamps inside the cabin, I have to pass wire through the Firewall grommet which is present in the Passenger side dashboard.
Is there any way to retain the stock fog lamp switch on the indicator stalk when I use a relay harness?

You can hook up the trigger wire of the relay harness with the +ve wire of one of the LHS or RHS side stock connectors for the fog lamps (if you can't find the matching coupler, you'll need to splice the wire or use a T-tap or scotch lock). If you are installing LED fog lights - this is straight forward. In case you plan to install HID fog lights - ensure that the car doesn't use fog lights as cornering lights. If it doesn't, you can use HIDs as well in same way.
What needs to be confirmed is, does the BCM/CAN actually pulse-check for fog lights. I don't think the Thar's fog lights would be CAN-bus integrated. So it should be OK to hook up to the stock harness by adding a relay.

The stock fog lamps have a 10A fuse with a Relay. Even the stock fog lamp wiring could power the LED projectors which is rated at 40W.
Well, I am no expert in wiring, so will need a full wiring diagram for a DIY attempt :)

What is the wattage of the Thar's stock fog lamp halogen bulbs? If its anything over 40W - I don't think you need a relay harness at all. If I were you - I'd simply install it on stock wiring. The Thar's bulb specifications would be available in the manual. I'm just too lazy right now to download it and check for you.
In many cars (like my Nexon) - the stock fog lamps are just ornaments with poor wattage. So we assume that the wiring is also lower in current carrying capacity & hence add a separate relay harness. If you still insist on a relay harness - DM me. I'll try to draw a circuit diagram and send it to you tomorrow.

Thar has H16 19 watt fog lamps, same as in the Nexon.
So, if we use a separate relay harness on the Nexon, we will need that in the Thar as well.
