DIY Guide : How to remove door panels - Tata Indica

Hi all,

Here's a little guide to remove the door panel in your Indica. Although a very simple thing to do, it can be a daunting task the first time.

It is best to watch someone do it before you try to DIY. But if you're careful, there should be no problems.

BTW, just in case... a new door panel costs 1.4 K

1.

Unscrew and remove the door handle

2.

Remove the two screws shown and gently take out the little 'frame' by extending the lever as seen in the pic

3.

Gently push a flat screw driver in between the panel and the window winder. Push it in the direction of the arrow in the pic to remove the retention clip.

These pics should explain this better.

Gently remove this piece of plastic. The OVRM rubber handle can be squeezed through the hole. If it does not come off, gently pry between the panel and the plastic. Do not use too much force.

remove the screw behind it.

(Pic taken from maximum size of speaker in Indica thread)

Remove the OE Speaker Grill and the screw beneath it.

6.

Lift up the rubber strip near the window glass and remove it gently.

7.

(Rear panel shown)

The panel is held by little connectors like these. They pop out with gentle pressure. The key is to use gentle pressure at the right spots.

IMO its best to start from the Upper front corner near the OVRM adjuster. the first one is the most difficult, but the rest will come out easily.
Put your fingers between the door and the panel and try to push them apart gently, it should release with a pop.

Approximate locations of the 'connectors'.

Putting it all back together. :

Align the panel, apply pressure at all the points until you stop hearing 'pops'.

For the window winder, place the retention clip back in its usual position and push it back into its place.

Everything else is just about reversing the steps.

Hope it helps.

Good show Aditya!

Very helpful post. Should be helpful to ALL DIYers since some of the processes are common with other cars.

The best thing to do would be to go to the service centre and watch someone do it. That way you'll learn it in a jiffy.

Its easier than Indica.I have removed couple of times.Smiler procedure like Indica.
1)Remove screws at A&B
2)Open lock at C
3)Remove winder knob (D) same as Indica.
4)Remove knob (E)
5)Remove rvm cover(?) (F) you have to pull right side and slide to left.
After removing door latch screw (B) you have to take slide the assembly and takeout connecting rod.
Pull the panel, there are about 6 locks from inside so little pressure is required.
Hope this helps,if required i can post pics but only in the weekend.
