DIY counter balancer shaft to cut altos 3 pot vibes?

Hi there! I have an alto which i really adore! The only thing which i think i never could digest is the high levels of vibrations produced by the unbalanced 3 cylinder design - especially at idle. It gets much worse with the AC on. As this is the bread and butter model Maruti has obviously not bothered to design a good counter balancer for the same.

I was wondering is possible to hook up one or more balancer shafts - externally , which would be mechanically linked to the flywheel on the RHS and suitably phased do that the vibes are killed.

I am sure something of that sort must be possible. I have seen the 3 pots of accent crdi and fabia who have much bigger engines but negligible vibes. I am sure they have great counter balancer designs. Although i got limited success by raising the idling by adjusting the idle screw, somehow the engine manages to creep back nearby its default idle rpm. I didnt get this either!

Can anyone throw light on the same

Hi sportz_kruzer, interesting thought there.

My M800 used to vibrate at idle, but I could get this solved by increasing the idling a bit. Do not know why your idle speed reverts back.

Also, how about checking the engine mounts ?

mounts are ok...aleast thats what the reps say. I ve seen the same in other altos, new and old. Alto vibrates more than the 800 which is a fact! regarding the creepy idle i think the MPFI computer plays truant here. dont know if we can change the idle electronically. Any mech. engineers out here please share some gyan on this!

Balancer shaft is usually embedded into the engine and not fitted like an accessory. Its a herculean task and not worth taking on.

If its bothering you that much, sell it and buy a 4pot like Zen.

selling it er.. is not exactly a mod! As i said i adore this thing so much i am looking forward for ways to make my investment better. I am sure its easier to "sell it and buying a better new one" than going in for power filters, free flow, forced induction, engine swaps, ECU remaps, noise damping, etc. but then where is the sense of achievement in that?

Change to a Wagon R engine, you get 4 pot as well as dont sell your Alto.
