Re: Tragic News: Gopinath Munde passes away in road accident

The car has not suffered any major damage. Does not look like a hard T bone. The early morning reports were talking about 'severe head & chest injuries'. Also some reports were stating that the car turned turtle. Looks like those reports were not true. The autopsy report would reveal the actual cause.

Rest in peace.

Condolences to the family.
The news bit you've quoted states that he suffered severe head injuries and a cardiac arrest but is contradicted by the immediate statement which says he didn't suffer any injuries.

Something is fishy about this incident. Need to wait for more details.
Indeed. I hate to complicate the situation and implicate anyone but something just doesn't add up.

What is shocking to me is that such an important person was traveling in an SX4 (no offence to anyone ). People of this rank must travel in much more safer cars (a BMW, may be).

The day begins on a sad note!
No offence indeed but even a BMW isn't foolproof. The reliability of a car cannot be held responsible if the occupants fail to follow the basic safety guidelines which, in this case, was belting up.

Re: Tragic News: Gopinath Munde passes away in road accident

RIP - very sad end.

Whats clear is that he seems to have died clearly of a heart attack and not due to physical injuries.

What the indica driver did was wrong - but he would have never ever thought he could actually lead to someone dying in this way!

What I find really ironic is that our "News Corporations" cannot get facts right in a factual event(what car, how it happened), yet they feel qualified enough to peddle opinion

Re: Tragic News: Gopinath Munde passes away in road accident

I think more than anything else he would have suffered a sudden shock due to the collision which ultimately turned out to be fatal. From the pictures there does not seem to be a major impact on his SX4.

I think our basic road and driving manners are not upto the mark. Some people drive as if it is the duty of people around to take care of them. People mostly dont follow traffic signals at smaller junctions or where the traffic police is not present. My personal experience in Mumbai has been that Traffic Police (not all though) mainly are waiting for you to cross the signal so that they will immediately pop-out from nowhere and ultimately you have to pay him something if you dont want to give away your license.

Indeed. Now though the report is completely different. Maybe it was put up in a hurry!

Anyway, I guess it will take a few days for the accurate details to be out.

Alarm bells for all who take these small chances thinking that it won't hurt anyone. You never know, a small useless risk or even foolishness can take someone's life. Not to mention the massive legal trouble the offender will go through.

Please drive carefully.
OT: Driving is the only competition in which you should assume that the other guy is incompetent. Hence, be prepared for mistake of others and never be on the wrong foot yourself.

Have a look at the fateful SX4 again. It has got all round bull bars it seems.

Sad but true, we concentrate too much on the symptoms (stopping the ongoing traffic) rather than solving the actual problem(not wearing seat belts).
+1.

I hope our esteemed mainstream news media use this opportunity and educate people about wearing seat belts.

Cut throat competition and "breaking news" they say, whatever gets the most sensationalism and TRPs is what sells. Factual data or reports do not matter any more to these so called "News Corporations". Tragedy of India is safety is always a second option, be it safety features in a car, obeying and enforcement of traffic rules, general precautions and sense of safe driving, no one will wake up from their slumber and try to fix the system once and for good.

Sad and untimely death. RIP to his soul.

The impact on the Indica also doesnt seem too harsh.
One genuine but noob question -
Do the airbags not open up in a side-impact collision? Or are they reserved for the frontal impact collisions?

There are side impact airbags. But not sure if SX4 is a car which has those.

Re: Tragic News: Gopinath Munde passes away in road accident

As per this news report, Mr. Munde suffered liver rupture and cervical fractures. It means that the hit was far more serious than what the pictures convey. Moreover, Indica had hit SX4 exactly at the point where he was seated. Looks like impact of the crash indeed had been fatal.

http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/go...-lateststories

Quote:
Mr Munde, due to the impact, suffered a rupture in his liver and lost one or two litres of blood, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said. The rural development minister also suffered cervical fractures and oxygen to the brain and lungs may have been cut off, Dr Vardhan added.

"Munde was brought to the emergency department of Jai Prakash Narain Apex Trauma Centre, AIIMS at 6:30 AM by his personal assistant and driver. Munde was sitting in the backseat of his car which was hit by another car or any other vehicle at around 6:20 AM from the side he was sitting," Dr Amit Gupta of the Trauma Centre told reporters.

"On his arrival at the Trauma Centre, there was no spontaneous breathing, no blood pressure, no pulse, no cardiac activity. So immediately Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) was started and continued for the next 15 minutes. Despite resuscitative measures, Munde could not be revived and was declared dead at 7:20 AM," he said.

According to the latest reports quoting the Delhi Police, it was Munde's driver who jumped the red light and not the Indica.

Quote:
Delhi Police sources said the minister's car was hit by a another car after his driver jumped a red signal.
Looks like another factual error by our beloved media in a race to say "we told you first" although every word told by the so-called 'first' might be rubbish. We have already seen SX4 becoming Ambassador, side-impact becoming head-on collision, multiple head injuries when there were no visible injuries and so on. Looks like blaming an innocent driver is just another bit of the 'responsible journalism' showed by our media!
