Mostly all branded car seat manufacturers have fit finder apps on their websites, to figure which models are compatible with a specific car. However I guess if the seat is of a type which works with 3-point seat belts, it should work with any seat with 3-point seat-belt.

That said my recommendation would still be to go with a reputed manufacturer like Britax, and use the fit finder on the website:

http://fitfinder.britax.co.uk/

You can find Britax car seats in Shoppers stop, and would also be able to order from their catalogue when in store.

Always look for car seat reviews from various sources, I used to check out amazon.co.uk reviews, and customer views available on which.co.uk.

Re: "Child Seat" for Babies & Kids

Hi folks,

I now need to upgrade my son's car seat to a Group1/2/3 car seat (front-facing with harness + booster). Looking up the options, it looks like difficult to get these type of seats in India, and will have to use something like eBay Global Buy.

Most likely i would go for a Graco Nautilus/Argos car seat. It is also rated as "best fit" (http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/chi...ters/best-bets). However they are *expensive* and heavy!

My qs is:
The blogs recommend fixing the car seat using a tether (http://www.thecarcrashdetective.com/...ethering.html/). Is that option present in Indian cars ?

I don't seem to have either the tether or ISOFix option in Swift Zxi. Looks like ecosport has the ISOFix, but only in Titanium AT variant. Let's hope that car manufacturers focus more on this child safety aspect too.

I completely agree on the advantage of the tether.

My Chevy Sail UVA has this and the way the seat remains rock solid is very reassuring.
I am comparing it against the installation I had in my old Wagon R, which did not have tethers.

Re: "Child Seat" for Babies & Kids

Last week I upgraded my kid's Child Seat to bigger one. She's 17kgs as of now, so decided to get a new one (range of the first one is 0 to 18kgs - Mothercare "Seville"). Got a "Evenflo Sureride Dlx Convertible Car Seat". I'm not happy with the installation (I need to learn more). My car Swift (2008 model) does not have LATCH or am I wrong in saying that Swift has no LATCH. Any ideas how to install it. As per the manual it can be installed with seat belt (available in youtube also), but I feel its not as tight as the previous model. Other model would not even budge, but this model has some play (sideways).

Is it possible to have LATCH/Hook to tether the top portion of the car seat.

Re: "Child Seat" for Babies & Kids

My friend has a 1 year old and I have a 3 year old. We are both looking for a car seat and found this "Sparco child seat" on PayTM. For Rs 6k, it looks like a good deal. Anybody has used this seat here?

Firstly, kudos on thinking about your child's safety and deciding to invest in a car seat!

That link shows its for INR 8380, or am I missing something there? My 2 cents, never heard of this brand in my limited knowledge of car seats. The 2 brands which were considered quite good back in the UK were Britax and Maxi cosi.

Why not bump up your budget a bit and go for this car seat from Britax:

http://www.shoppersstop.com/britax-e...eat-chili.html

I myself have this for my 1 year old in India, and previously used the same one back in the UK for my 5 year old (then 2 years), and can vouch for the quality of the seat.

Re: "Child Seat" for Babies & Kids

My son's now 3 yrs+ and over 15 kgs. He's rapidly outgrowing the Chicco baby seat I bought when he was a bit over 3 months old. Has served us well and the kid's real fond of his seat. My only grouse with this particular model of car seat is that there aren't any neck restraints, so his head can roll around when he's asleep (there was a neck restraint but that was attached to the "baby" adapter - an added detachable cushioning on top of the seat - that he rapidly outgrew).

Anyway, we need to get a seat that's slightly larger and will keep the kid safe and comfy for at least another 3-4 years. I was eyeing this one: http://www.chicco.in/products/805866...car-seats.html
Saw it in person and it looked and felt great. Expensive though at 20k+ in the store (saw an online option at ~16k)!! I like Chicco but am open to other tried and tested options as well. Any suggestions, and any feedback on this Chicco?

Re: "Child Seat" for Babies & Kids

^ My daughter uses this http://www.amazon.in/Evenflo-High-Ba...8109096&sr=1-1

and she loves it.

But I paid much lesser than the India price. Had it picked up from the US when my family went on holiday there.

I bought this same seat last week from flipkart. The cost was 13.5k due to an offer. Else its there at 15k usually. Right now red is out of stock but Grey is available. Used it only for 2 days now but looks comfortable and my daughter loves it

In similar situation - was considering this chicco car seat, but then saw this review which suggested this seat is not so sturdy - so have not gone ahead.

It is challenging to find car seats for kids above 4 years here. Even stores like Mom-and-me are sticking to products for younger kids. No options in other stores like shopper's stop either.

My newborn is one month old, and considering purchasing this which is available on amazon for 15K.

My query is is it good enough for a newborn, reviews on amazon say this is comfortable for infants from 7 months and older, not so much for 1 month old.

Would it fit perfectly on Wagon R 2011 model?

Well, new borns should have a suitable rear facing car seat till they can control their neck well, please refer to:

http://www.parenting.com/gallery/car...llation?page=5

from the reviews it sounds like this is not the best seat for infants:

http://community.babycentre.co.uk/po...or_rear_facing

About fitting the Wagon R, most manufacturers have a fit-finder on their website, it is advisable either to go through the fit finder (if your car is in the list), or find a local store like Shoppers Stop, and get them to fit and show you, buy only if you are convinced about the sturdiness of the seat.

Not to forget, do as much research as you can on any seat you are considering. You will find must more elaborate reviews on US and UK based sites, they take child safety way more seriously than us Indians.

My 19 months old son slides his hand (left) out of shoulder strap of child seat. Is there a solution for this?

Did you try tightening the strap to the maximum possible?

Why is he trying to writhe free of his shoulder strap? Is it fastened in a way causing him discomfort? Or is he just trying out something new he learnt!? Try to keep him occupied with toys/picture books maybe..?
