A front facing seat should be used from age 2 onwards.
I'm using Chicco Nextfit for my kid. It is a convertible one, can be used as rear facing and forward facing. It costs ₹ 29,000. It’s the best one available and can be used till the kid is 30 kg. After that you need a booster seat.

Typically in US, the switch to front facing is from around 15 to 18 months. But if he has outgrown the seat already then it will be ok to switch I guess. More than the age I believe the size of the child is taken into consideration, as it should be about his comfort and safety.

I have been using this seat for the past 2.5 years and have been satisified with it. The only negative is, it does not recline too much so the kids' head tends to fall over to the front if they go into really deep sleep, so if that is not a problem for you, then go ahead with the purchase

I second that, I'm also using Chicco Nextfit for my daughter for more than a year now. She is 2 years and she is comfortable with the rear facing so far.
This can accommodate your kid till he is 30 Kg. Rear facing is always better for kid unless they are above the prescribed height / weight.

Coming to the seat, its heavy, sturdy, comfortable, 9 recline position , ISO fix and material quality is quite good and looks durable too.

Beware of the size; if you are having hatchback then check before you buy, as it takes good amount of space of your rear bench. Shouldn't be an issues for C and above sedans / SUV's

Cheers!

Heh heh. Yeah i saw that. Another seller [cart2india] has it for 12,349+130. 85% rating. 13,700 ratings. Should be ok.

OT: Is there an option to disable amazon global listings while searching?

Re: "Child Seat" for Babies & Kids

I just ordered a Isofix Child Seat fro NEXA. It's in the list of official NEXA Accessories. Costs around Rs.6000/-. It was not in stock so I paid an advance of Rs.2000/- and asked them to place an order. I should receive it in 8 days. I'll post a review after that.

+1 for the Evenflo seat. I have been using this seat for the last 3.5 years. Purchased it from Mummy & Me (? - the Mahindra's shopping outlet) at Bengaluru. Cost was around 10k then.

I had used it in the rear-facing position for the first 18-20 months, when my daughter was a baby. She had a very comfortable stay (& sleep) in our journeys which were a minimum 5-6 hours ones.

Now I am using it in front facing mode. My daughter was not comfortable during the initial days, but now seems to really enjoy sitting there (it gives her a better view).

An ISOFIX seat for 6k is really VFM. Is this convertible or front facing only? My 8 month old has outgrown his rear facing infant seat(which was one of the free accessories from NEXA) and I'm in the market for a new one, preferably a convertible. What is the minimum age that is specified for this seat by NEXA?

Not sure if convertible. My feeling is it's front facing as it's shown front facing in the catalogue. No age is specified. The showroom guys were clueless. I'll post all the details and photos including the instruction leaflet once I receive the seat.

Re: "Child Seat" for Babies & Kids

My son outgrew his rear facing Chicco Keyfit 123 seat.

I was looking at options for front facing seats. Isofix and Top Tether were compulsory. Chicco Nextfit looked perfect, but the costing here in India was atrocious.

By a stroke of luck, I stumbled upon an ad in Quikr - a US returnee with an almost unused Chicco Nextfit seat - this was purchased just before returning to India. His child in India refused to sit in a seat anymore and none of his relatives wanted it

So once I got talking to him and got comfortable, got this for Rs.12,000 - original packing, booklet etc. with some accessories still in their plastic cover.

Quikr delivered in 2 days (same city). Fitted this and my son's quite happy. The Nextfit is far more 'cushiony' than KeyFit. It fitted my Baleno quite well with quite a bit of legroom to spare.

Do keep an eye out for such genuine distress deals!

Re: "Child Seat" for Babies & Kids

First cry mentions that Chicco nextfit is recommended only till 3 year kid. However it can support upto 30kg. Can someone clarify if this seat will work till 6-7 years age.

From the user manual it states "This Child Restraint is designed for children ages Birth to 6 years old"

ONLY use this Child Restraint if the child meets BOTH of the following
Weight and Height requirements:
  • Weight is between 5 and 65 pounds (2.2 and 29.4 kg).
  • Height is 49 inches (1245 mm) or less.

Hope this helps.
Cheers!
