Re: Child Safety, and SAFE driving on Indian Roads

There are two mothercare stores i know of in Pune.
Both are housed within Shopper's Stop.
1. Shopper's Stop, Nucleus Mall, Opp Blue nile restaurant, camp, Pune.
2. Shopper's Stop, Inorbit Mall, Nagar Rd, Pune.

I have not seen helmets in store. But like @vb-san said, they may be able to order one for you from their international range.

Also there are quite a few stores in Pune selling Cycle as well as motorcycle gear.

Like.
1. Life cycles.
2. One store near natural ice-cream Lane no 7 Koregaon Park.
3. There was one opp Clover centre in camp, near ABN amro bank, not sure if it is still there.

Will be on the lookout, if i spot anymore stores will post it here.

Re: Child Safety, and SAFE driving on Indian Roads

Thanks mdsaab, selfdrive, vb-san for your valuable suggestions.

I have seen lot of duplicate Bisleri cans in the market & when we go in for a tour more than 2 days, it is not preferable than having a water purifier.

Deeply looking into it. will update once I come across any such kinda stuff.

Buy this through friends who are coming from abroad:
Travel Water Purifiers | Travel Water Filter | SteriPEN Traveler mini

Many good words about it on Indiamike.com - some links:

I have seen kids' helmets in Mothercare Singapore. In India, they may not have it available in the store, but you can ask them to show you their international catalogue, and maybe they will be able to order one for you.

If you are interested, I can post a picture of the helmet I got for my 3 year old (for her push-scooter).
My son has one for his bicycle. I want one for him similar to my helmet for the motorbike. Sorry if I wasnt clear. AFAIK, Mothercare does not have those here. I will check and confirm though

Oops, sorry maybe I missed that part (about helmets for motorbikes).
I don’t think Mothercare will have that (even in their international catalogue). I can check during my lunch break sometime this week.

Pune being the automobile hub of India should have shops which sell helmets for kids. Maybe check with some go-carting clubs there, and they should be able to help with some leads on kids’ helmets.

Re: Child Safety, and SAFE driving on Indian Roads

wifey and baby misha are due to have a long term stay in india come november(at least three months) by which stage baby will be 6 months old, i haven't had a chance chance to scan through all 13 pages of this thread, but i have picked up something of some concern, ISOFIX fittings on local origin cars are a bit thin on the ground. does anyone know if the suzuki swift (my father in law has a saloon version in mumbai) would have the fixings?

if so my plan is to send the base unit and car seat over with them. the seat is a maclaren/recaro profi plus, can be used alone with a seat belt or with the isofix base unit.

From what I know Swift/Dzire does not have ISOFIX mounts. The best will be to fix the seat using seatbelt.

some of the euro brand cars had isofix mounts. like the octavia and fabia and laura. But i seriously doubt the swift or swift dzire would have isofix mounts.
The best bet is to fit the car seat with seatbelts.

@mdsaab (and others!)
I tried to fix my sons car seat by myself, but I am not sure or confident it has been fixed correctly. Do you know of any place in Pune (nearer to Deccan/ Kothrud the better!) where they would install the car seat properly for me?

The folks at Mother care would be glad to assist you i believe.
Though they are a bit far off from Deccan and Kotrud.
also you can get some help from Mom & Me in AUNDH. which would be closer.
Also you could search for some videos on youtube which guide you on how to install the car seats.
Where do you feel you might have gone wrong?
Pull the seat slightly forward, is there too much play? if so then you need to fix it again.
Also is the Seat belt locked? or does a very slight tug lock it?

Thanks mdsaab, I will verify with both places before I go to them. I dont mind one near Bund Garden road either; I will get it done during the day while I am (supposedly) at work.

I am not sure if something is wrong, but I would be more comfortable to get it verified.

Which brand is the car seat? Some of the brands have pictorial installation guides in their website.

I have referred to the pictorial installation guide from the manual, but its too lengthy for my short attention span and lack of patience. I will give it another try this weekend.

In the meanwhile I have called Mom & me who confirmed they install car seats bought elsewhere. So by this Monday, the car seat should be installed either way, yay!

Fantastic, they should be pretty good at it too. Since they sell car seats and have seen people pick some up in front of me.
BTW there is one more Mom & Me at either Phoenix or Inorbit.
So in case you are headed toward Nagar rd then you will have not one but two options. one being Mom&Me and the other being Mothercare.
