Watch Tesla Drive Itself To Its Owner After He Summons It Via His Phone

Quote:
The recently launched software update 'Summon' self-parking system is available on both the Model S and the Model X and it allows you to exit the car once you arrive home or somewhere with some sort of parking structure, allowing the vehicle to squeeze itself into place.

Because the system is still in its Beta stage, Tesla would rather owners only try it out on their private property, which does make a lot of sense.

The owner of this Model S isn't necessarily looking for the car to park itself, but more so to come fetch him from the entrance, so that he doesn't get soaked by the rain walking to the car. The Model S does move at a painfully slow speed, almost annoyingly slow, but so far that's a small price to pay for pioneering this type of future tech. Plus, if it was really raining cats and dogs, anyone would appreciate their car coming to get them, no matter how long it took.

The system seems to be working fine and efficiently, and the fact that you can easily control it from your mobile phone is probably the best part - as opposed to being inside the car and telling it what to do by pressing some buttons.

Reminds me of the BMW 750iL in Tomorrow never dies which Bond drives from the rear seat using his phone.

From what I see, it's right now capable of only forward and backward motion. So the car has to be driven only straight ahead. Next step, include the ability to turn the steering wheel and we have a 1:1 scale RC car!

Tesla has finally updated its Model S with a facelifted version;

As you can see the front fascia is now inspired from the Model 3 & Model X, the only other change on the front is the LED headlights

The interior now has heated / ventilated front seats and a medical-grade HEPA air filter, there is now an option of two new wood trim including Dark Ash and Figured Ash. Premium Upgrade package will include Nappa leather upholstery, an Alcantara headliner & LED ambient lighting. Customers can also order a 'Subzero Weather Package' which adds heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated washer nozzles.

On the performance there are 4 different powertrains available, right from the base S70 to top spec P90D.

Thought the powertrains are carried over from older model, Tesla has upgraded 48 amp charger which should help reduce the recharging times.

Pricing starts at U$ 71,000

Re: Revealed: 2016 Tesla Model S (Facelift)

I think the facelift looks awesome. Specially in white.
Love the fact that they've got better seats. Also, like how the area under the touchscreen is now a big box... seemed odd when it was open (fiat/amby types).

Overall I'd say it brings the car a couple of notches ahead.

Tesla Model S: First Impressions-page-2.jpg

Comes in 4 derivatives – ‘P90 D’ which is an AWD, ‘90 D’ is also an AWD, ‘70 D’ – AWD & ‘70’ –the only RWD. All AWD models run on two digitally controlled independent motors unlike the conventional AWDs wherein the power is distributed to 4 different wheels from a single engine. ‘P90 D’ is top of the range and comes with a high performance rear motor along with a high efficiency front motor which can accelerate the car from 0 to 60 MPH in 2.8 seconds.

Re: Tesla Model S: First Impressions

Hey guys,

I took an extended test drive of Tesla S P90D (with ludicrous mode) today.

I was thinking about this for a long while and finally booked a test drive last week. It was an easy online process and the only requirement was a local (US) driving license.

At the designated time today, I landed at the Boston Prudential dealership of Tesla. After a quick license check, I was given an option to go through the various features of the car. The car I was supposed to drive was a fully loaded one (Retail price USD 1,40,000 with the following features:
  • All-Wheel Drive
  • Red Multi-Coat Paint
  • All Glass Panoramic Roof
  • 19" Silver Slipstream Wheels
  • Black Next Generation Seats
  • Matte Obeche Wood Décor
  • White Alcantara Headliner
  • Ludicrous Speed Upgrade
  • Carbon Fiber Spoiler
  • Tesla Red Brake Calipers
  • Supercharger Enabled
  • High Amperage Charger Upgrade
  • Autopilot Convenience Features
  • Premium Upgrades Package
  • Smart Air Suspension
  • Ultra High Fidelity Sound
  • Subzero Weather Package

I was then taken to the parking space where the beauty in red was getting charged along with a sleek looking Model X.

How the autopilot works is that a small stalk (like a cruise control stalk) has to be double tapped. The car then locks onto the lane using the

This was the most awesome feature - auto park! This is truly a technological marvel and makes my parallel parking skills useless

I also got to try the ludicrous mode on the highway. It is indeed ludicrous and I managed to pin down a Ferrari (seen in one of the videos). At a 0-60 mph time of 2.8 seconds, this is faster than most sportscars.

This was an awesome experience and I look forward to owning this sometime in the future.

Re: Tesla Model S: First Impressions

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/best-cars/driver-power/95238/best-cars-to-own-driver-power-2016-results

  • It is the first time Model S entered in this survey (sales for Model S started only in 2014 in UK)
  • It is also no.1 in performance, running costs, handling, ride quality, ease of driving etc...

Re: Tesla Model S: First Impressions

New Tesla Model S is first to exceed 300-mile range

Facelifted 90D can eke out 303.2 miles on a charge; increases previous rating by 9 miles.

Quote:
Tesla says these increases in range come thanks in part to the facelifted car’s more aerodynamic front end – the 2016 model features a smoother nose than the outgoing car – but are largely due to the fact that the EPA has now tested a 90D with a 90kWh battery.

Previous figures used percentage-increased estimates based on tests in a car with an 85kWh battery.
