Maruti Esteem: Electric Vehicle Conversion Project

Hello Guys! I've taken a Motor from a Fork lift (8.5 KW) to build an Electric Vehicle

Well, One of my patents published back in the days (When I used to sit on the computer too much creating things on Catia) was of a Seem-less shift Transmission, specially designed for an Electric Motor. I though of making a prototype. So Here goes. I have bought an Esteem, and started stripping it down.

Plan to mount my newly developed and self built Prototype Transaxle into the Esteem! Hoping for best results! Also I need Li-ion Batteries, Targetting 48V, 400AH. Any Indian supplier that you people may know will be of great help!

Will be back with updates very very very soon!!!
In the mean while, if anybody wants to add some inputs, kindly do.

Thanks!

for your efforts.
Contact Amaron (Amara Raja Industries) for your battery needs. They might be able to do the custom Li-Ion for you.
Have you considered a Tesla like On-board generator powering the battery/motor which power the wheels concept?

The Teslas are pure plug-in EVs. I think maybe you're thinking of the Fiskar?

re: Maruti Esteem: Electric Vehicle Conversion Project

Hello People,

Sorry It took a little longer than expected.

Here is what I have done so far.

Bought an Esteem, Opened up the Transaxle, Maintained the Diff in place, and modified the remaining interiors of the gearbox to fit in my proto E-Shift mechanism

Then wire cut a plate to fit the motor on to the asy. a run out of .05 still there :( But yea it spins.

Check it out!

Next step is to put it in!!

re: Maruti Esteem: Electric Vehicle Conversion Project

Hey,

are you planning a singular motor in the front to drive the front wheels?

Yup. My proto e shift mechanism basically allows me to use a small motor.
Which is what my experiment is basically all about.

Will keep you updated. Thx

I'm currently in my 3rd year. Mech engg.

I'm planning a EV with a motor at each wheel (4WD). Im facing the following problem:

1. how to link the front 2 motors to a gear box and the same for the rear.

2. how to link the front and rear motors to a single gear shift!

any ideas???

Hello brother,

Well first of all, I'm happy that you are attempting something cool for your project. In my engineering project I put a rd 350 engine in a honda dio :P

Well anyways, I got a lot of suggestions for you. Just ping me on hd@electronperformance.com and I'll get back to you.

If you are in Pune, you can come down to my factory anytime to see cool electric vehicular stuff.

Precisely My Point.

What I'm trying to do with my prototype patented E-shift transmission is to run a car with 1/3rd of its required motor size. Thus scaling down the necessary Electronics, Batteries, etc. Dyno clocked 48 bhp and a max speed of 130 kmph . Many mods in the motor also. Seperately Excited motor. Playing around with it.. Lets see what happens.

Cheers!

Re: Maruti Esteem: Electric Vehicle Conversion Project

Nice to see this thread!

It seems a very long time since I had left engineering college. But these posts reminds us of the time spent at the workshops. But then this is an entirely different area. You are developing an idea.

Please pardon if the question is inappropriate or silly. Are you transforming your esteem to an electric car just for the sake of using it as an electric car? Or are you trying to develop an engine that could be a technology/patent for the next generation? If it is the later one, what different is it from Mahindra's concept of e2O?

Anyways, all the best for your endeavour!
