Re: Could Tesla launch in India?

Any Tesla Model 3 Buyers from India, looking for a refund, given the delay in shipping dates?

Re: Could Tesla launch in India?

All very fine. At the end of the day I do not see Tesla NOT coming to India. Given the taxation imports are not exactly the way.

I am seriously upset - I booked it on Day #1. But, hoping that the 66K I paid will get a Tesla earlier whenever it arrives.

With no further new on India plans yet, Tesla nears deal for first factory in China.

Quote:
Tesla Inc. is close to an agreement to produce vehicles in China for the first time, giving the electric-car maker better access to the world's largest auto market.
Setting up local production is key for CEO Elon Musk to continue growing in China, where Tesla's revenue tripled to more than $1 billion last year. Assembling vehicles locally would allow the company to avoid a 25 percent tax that renders Model S sedans and Model X crossovers more expensive than in the U.S

Re: Could Tesla launch in India?

@volkman10; I doubt whether Tesla will like to invest in India and China at the same time. It is a matter of money and also risk. Remember Tesla sets up its own maintenance infrastructure.

Tesla confirms on working with Shanghai Government to establish a manufacturing facility.

While it isn’t confirmed yet, it looks like Shanghai will be among the up to 3 more locations to build Gigafactories to produce both batteries and electric vehicles that Tesla planned to announce before the end of the year.

Quote:
China is already the biggest market for electric vehicles, or any vehicles for that matter. Tesla profited from the demand and it tripled its sales to over $1 billion in the country in 2016.

Tesla is deeply committed to the Chinese market, and we continue to evaluate potential manufacturing sites around the globe to serve the local markets. While we expect most of our production to remain in the US, we do need to establish local factories to ensure affordability for the markets they serve

Re: Could Tesla launch in India?

Tesla model 3 has some Indian links!

Sandhar Tech to supply wiper system parts to Tesla Model 3.

Quote:
Sandhar Technologies is working as one of the main vendors to supply two child parts in the wiper system assembly of the all-new fully electric Tesla Model 3
Quote:
Sandhar Technologies will be supplying two components to the wiper system assembly of the Model 3 from its Spanish subsidiary, Sandhar Technologies Barcelona, which will be shipping these parts from its Mexico plant. Though the specific parts have not been revealed, these are aluminium pressure die-cast parts used in the wiper system.

Re: Could Tesla launch in India?

This is big news for EVs.
Quote from the article:

Quote:
Under the existing Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric vehicles in India (FAME) scheme, a two-wheeler buyer get up to Rs 22,000 reduction in purchase price while the price discount is up to Rs 25,000 for three-wheelers and Rs 1.87 lakh for 4-wheelers.
That is some discount on 4 wheelers. Add to that the GST going to 0 for EVs and no road tax.

Quote:
The tax incentives being mulled by the government include reducing the goods and services tax (GST) rate on electric vehicles (EVs) to zero from 12% now – the GST (inclusive of cesses) on petrol/diesel vehicles range between 28-43% at present. Also, if states agree to the plan, EVs will be exempt form toll-tax and road-tax (if states agree).

Re: Could Tesla launch in India?

One more reason why I am rooting Tesla should launch in India.

They drop Model X's price by $3000. Why? Because over time Tesla improved operational efficiency and thus reduced costs. This is being passed on to customers.

Although, some are arguing that its sales are dropping and hence the price drop. But I am not sure how much would a $3K cut in a $82.5K car would help drive sales.

I will give the benefit of doubt to Tesla. For this time at least, I would like to believe the manufacturer's version. It sounds logical too, given increasing production volumes and as the firm gaining more experience.

How many manufacturers do we have who would do this? Pass on part of the benefits to customers - i.e., stake holders in the firm.

See you soon in India, Tesla!

Re: Could Tesla launch in India?

Tesla is a proven technology. The rest are still to establish themselves in the real sense of the world. So that itself is a big plus for Tesla.

Tesla talks with govt for India drive -evincing interest in entering the market through the single-brand retail window.

Quote:
The government is expected to formally reply to Tesla over the next few weeks, considering there is interest not just from buyers
Quote:
There is no clarity on how Tesla planned to provide after-sales service in India and develop infrastructure to charge the vehicles

Indian Richie Rich who are desperately waiting for there 3's

Quote:
Digital payments provider Paytm's founder Vijay Shekar Sharma, Vishal Gondal of GOQii and Tech Mahindra's chief strategy officer Jagdish Mitra - all self-proclaimed fanboys of Musk, who coughed up $1000 for pre-booking last year - can't wait to get their hands on the car
Quote:
Sharma says he can’t wait till the India launch anymore and plans to import a “right-hand driven” Model 3, which could be the first such car on Delhi roads. “It’s about worshipping the vehicle of the future and the man behind it,” said Sharma.

Tesla shock for India's EV dream - finalizes a deal to build its own manufacturing plant in China.

Quote:
Citing sources, The Wall Street Journal reported a week ago that electric-car maker Tesla Inc. had reached an agreement to set up its own manufacturing facility in China. Tesla struck a deal with Shanghai authorities that would make it the first foreign automaker to build its own plant in China.
Quote:
What made Tesla go to China first? The policy. It seems the Indian government was not willing to make an exception for Tesla when it came to the laws that requires foreign companies to source 30 per cent of their parts locally.

That is no shock. China's car market is over six times that of India. So Tesla will want to be there. We should try to be next in line.
