Audi Drops First Teaser Picture of the New Q6 Electric Vehicle;



After BMW X6 & Mercs GLE, this is Audis answer to this segment in form of an all electric vehicle the Q6.

Which in a way tells us that this will be competition for Tesla SUV (in pipeline)

Rumor has it that this will be based on the Q7 platform (MLB)

IMO definitely more HOT than the current X6 & the recently revealed Mercedes MLE.

Neat observation there, but other than the tail lights there aint much of a similarity between the 2 cars, majorly because the "Stance" of the Q6 will be much more aggressive vs the Lincoln's & that shall make all the difference

Audi will preview Tesla Model X fighter with Frankfurt show concept. The crossover will have a new design for its EVs and plug-in hybrids and it could be call the Q6.

Audi will preview a sporty, electric-powered crossover as a concept vehicle at the Frankfurt auto show in September 2015.

It will be based on Volkswagen group's second-generation MLB modular-longitudinal platform and will feature extreme aerodynamic styling that will be unique to the new model.
The electric vehicle could be joined by plug-in hybrid and hydrogen-powered versions.

The vehicle will target the upcoming Tesla Model X, as well as future plug-in hybrid models from Porsche and BMW.

Audi's upcoming crossover concept has reportedly leaked to the web, ahead of its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Audi is keeping details under wraps, but the concept will reportedly ride on the MLB Evo platform and feature an all-electric powertrain that uses three motors and a 90 kWh battery. This will reportedly enable the concept to produce 500 bhp (373 kW) and 700 Nm (517 lb-ft) of torque. More importantly, the concept is believed to have a range of at least 500 km (311 miles).

People seemed to be carried away with the dream of clean electric cars and while replacing combustion engined cars with clean electric cars is laudable, no one seems to realize that the electricity to power these cars come from fossil fuels such as coal and oil that are heavily heavily polluting fuels in themselves. The electricity is then transmitted to charging points using cable where losses in energy occur from point A to point B further adding to the inefficiency.
Looking at the cars themselves, many are made of plastic or carbon fibre such as the BMW i3 to keep them light and help extend range, which are not biodegradable or recyclable.
Then there is the question as to how you deal with huge chemical batteries. Think about your struggle to find a throw away you empty AA battery and multiply by a million. Will these end up in a land fill to pollute our water table?
Compare this to a heavier steel and aluminium cars, where a very high percentage of the car can be scrapped and recycled. There are also no dangerous chemicals. The petrol is burned off.
In fact, petrol engined cars are probably still the most efficient way of getting around.
If electricity came from renewables or nuclear, then I could understand the rush to make more electric cars, but right now we are putting the cart before the horse and need to invest in cleaner power generation first. It seems that politics has taken a front seat over common sense and many of are being taken in.
