I think what Sgiitk meant is that New Zealand drives on the left, so steering is on the right. But car in picture has steering in the left.

However the article takes not of this and cites the possible reason
Quote:

The car that arrived these days in the country, however, had a left-hand-side steering wheel, and also California plates, so it's clearly just visiting. The most likely reason for its presence is that New Zealand is in the midst of winter, so there's plenty of snow around. Another one would be shooting pictures and video for the official press release materials, but we doubt they couldn't have found a few scenic places in the U.S. as well.

For Prospective Tesla Model 3 owners who have booked the car, there is good news.

The production is on target, first unit to be ready on Friday!

To be handed over to first 30 customers on 28th July!

August would see 100, September 1500 and reaching 20,000/month in December.

Earlier this year I was in California meeting business associates and a few old friends - all of them Silicon Valley NRI's. I counted of the 19 I met 9 yes 9 had Tesla's that is almost 50%. 9 had a hybrid of one kind or the other and only 1 had a regular IC engine car. Of course all of them owned more than one car but I am only referring to the car I travelled with them in. The Tesla's cockpit is like a glass cockpit of an aircraft (only less cluttered) and its rear seat room could be improved upon a lot. Don't ask me what models they were as I am not that familiar with this brand yet. 9 out 19 is an indication of the trend albeit on a small sample in an area of financially well off citizens. California is often a trend setter for USA and USA for the world. Now if only Mr. Musk would look at the rear bench.

Were those sedans or SUVs? The sedan would be the Model S and the SUV would be the Model X.

I'm guessing the majority, if not all, would have been the beautiful Model S :)

They get cheaper toll and priority lanes for electric cars in the US. A lot of them buy it for that reason. Saves them almost 30 mins over a regular car to get to work. Also the tax exemptions on these cars make them more affordable. Not taking anything away from Tesla though.

Yes that is a very big motivator. Interestingly all those who worked for big companies (the usual suspects) had company provided parking spots with charging facilities. One of them worked for an IT company that provided a car as a perquisite only if it was a all-electric or plug in electric.

Tesla Model 3 Design Studio to soon go online, but expectations should be low as it will only provide two options initially: paint color and wheel design.:)

But even it this, Tesla has 3 patents - Tesla filed for and obtained the design patents for three alloy wheels styles, and they have all been spotted on prototypes or release candidates before.

The first one, and the most basic, is the so-called V-spoke design. As the name suggests, the wheel has five Vs (or ten spokes) connecting the hub with the outside rim. This is the safe choice for those who don't like to bother too much with these aspects.

The second one is the "wind turbine" design, and it might be the poshest of them all. This could come at an extra charge or be restricted to the larger size of 19 inches, but we'll have to wait and see. It's definitely the prettiest of the trio, and also the most fragile-looking.

Finally, we come to the aero design. This was conceived to maximize the Model 3's range and, if you ask us, it should be the default choice for everyone. It may not show as much caliper skin as the other two, but it offers more practical advantages, the ones that make sense for the type of vehicle the Model 3 is.

It was hinting toward making the glass roof standard on the Model 3, especially since Musk said that Tesla would limit the number of configurations to fewer than 100 compared to the Model S’ more than 1,500 different configurations.

But the company later confirmed that the glass roof will be “optional” on the Model 3, which could mean that we have actually never seen the standard roof of the Model 3?
