Tesla is also expected to reveal the details about the options coming for the vehicle, like battery sizes and performance versions in order for reservation holders to make a more informed decision before turning their reservation into an order.

Tesla Model 3 on performance test and final tuning.

So far, the company has only confirmed a “0 to 60 mph acceleration in 5.6 seconds” and a range of “over 215 miles” for the base version of the car.

Elon Musk will be gifting himself the FIRST Model 3. The other 29 copies will be handed over to TESLA employees / current owners of Tesla EVs.

Production-spec Tesla Model 3 revealed

Tesla has revealed the production-ready Model 3. The car is available at prices starting from US$ 35,000 and is the company's third model after the Model S and Model X. Along with the reveal, the company started deliveries of the car to employee reservation holders.

The Model 3 comes with a battery that has a range of 352 km (EPA estimated) as a part of standard equipment. The car is claimed to do the 0-96 km/h sprint in 5.6 seconds and touch a top speed of 209 km/h.

The Model 3 is equipped with features such as 8 airbags, all-LED headlamps and tail lamps, collision avoidance systems, 3-point seatbelts with reminders for all occupants, two children) in the rear seats, ABS with EBD, ESC and traction control and tyre pressure monitoring system.

The Model 3 is being produced with the long-range battery at the Tesla Factory in Fremont, California. The deliveries of the car to customers are scheduled to commence in October 2017, while the production of the car with the standard battery is expected to start in November. The production of the all-wheel drive version of the Model 3 and deliveries of left-hand drive cars is scheduled to begin in 2018. The production of right-hand drive cars is expected to commence in 2019.

Tesla Model 3 sees 10% cancellations.

From a high of 518,000 reservations, the order books currently number approximately 455,000 deposits as per the electric vehicle manufacturer’s latest quarterly earning call.

About 63,000 people had cancelled their bookings in the past year.

But Musk refers it as thus:

It's like if you're a restaurant and you're serving hamburgers and there's like an hour-and-a-half wait for hamburgers - do you really want to encourage more people to order more hamburgers?

On the brighter side,

The chief executive officer highlights that Tesla has been averaging 1,800 new reservations per day since Friday, the day that marked the handover of the first 30 production-spec Model 3 vehicles.

The model 3 is a technological disruption in the space occupied by the 3 and the C etc . A lot of people mostly youngsters and pensioners who want to either go green or have a simple car and just charge it at home and drive limited will go for it . The cancellations are bound to happen coz the waiting line is just too long. I was expecting the car to come to India in 2018 but I won't be surprised if it doesn't come before 2019 end. I obviously hope it gets here quickly. I feel Mercedes and BMW will feel the heat from the model 3 and I hope they bring out their electric versions quickly. Lesser moving parts so that means people will own cars longer as over the air software update will update the car and the only differentiating factor will be maybe newer looks and longer battery range / performance
