Tesla factory structure catches fire in Fremont.







The Fremont Fire Department has commented on the fire:

“Initial reports are fire started in a cardboard pile, threatening an outside structure and now started a small grass fire. We have resources on scene and are taking action.”

TESLA update:

This evening, some cardboard and shipping materials being prepared for recycling on our southern fence line caught fire, along with a small patch of grass next to a Tesla parking lot. The fire is now contained. We would like to thank the Fremont Fire Department for their rapid response. There are no injuries and we are investigating the cause.

Let us see whether Musk stays on in a major role. One has to concede that the Tesla is him all the way.

His departure will at least force a switch to a lower level of activity. I hope the matter is resolved.

On the contrary, him acknowledging that Tesla is not him all the way and building a professional management team that he delegates to and gives authority to is just what's needed for the company to recover. Him working 120 hours a week is an unhealthy and dangerous sign for the company, investors and the customers.

They have a great product, some excellent innovation, now they need management expertise to run like a professional organisation and not as Musk's playground.

Tesla Model 3 avoids collision and saves a life by automatically drifting away into next line. Dash cam footage can be seen in the below Youtube video (actual incident starts at 1:34 mark). He mentions that it was because of Autopilot option which is not correct. Its side collision avoidance feature and it is standard in all Tesla vehicles including base variants. There were similar incidents recorded earlier in Model X and Model 3 but this one is very close and sudden.

Tesla Model 3 outsold all the BMW passenger cars (2,3,4,5,6,7 series + X1 & X2) combined in August in USA. Tesla sales (Model S + Model 3 + Model X = 23,175) are now higher than Mercedes (20,339), Audi (20,907) and closer to BMW (23,789). Lexus sales are higher at 28,622. All these numbers includes sedans, SUVs and trucks.

Tesla numbers are from below link, while others are based on their official monthly press releases. Note that Tesla releases only quarterly numbers. These estimates are relatively accurate.

Tesla's most coveted $35,000 Tesla Model 3 is nowhere close to be in production this year.

Would need another 8 months!

Elon Musk:

We will definitely offer a $35,000 version of the Model 3. And probably at the end of this year is when we will be able to make a smaller version of the battery pack, and get into volume production of $35,000 version in Q1 next year. We would definitely honor that obligation, and we would do so right now if it were possible

Impressive... the car doesn't even have a engine up front, yet the crumple doesn't reach the front passenger.
The only casualty for a single car crash at this speed would be luggage up front.

I am guessing the repair should be comparatively cheaper -- no engine block to fix!

Engine in the front is a huge safety issue. It doesn't make the car safe, car makers go to great lengths to make the engine drop to the floor in case of an accident so that the engine doesn't enter the cabin.

Tesla achieves Model 3 production goal for the Quarter with 2 days still to go!

a reliable source familiar with Tesla’s production, the automaker had a strong week of production and managed to bring the total number Model 3 produced to over 51,000 vehicles.

For the first time in months, Tesla was able to produce about 5,000 Model 3 vehicles over seven days.

The total production for the week was at around 6,700 vehicles – bringing the total for the quarter to about 77,400 vehicles.

Official Model 3 deliveries and production numbers for Q3, 2018:

Deliveries: 55,840
Production: 53,239

In the last week of Q3, Tesla produced over 5,300 Model 3 vehicles, almost all of which were dual motor, meaning that they achieved a production rate of more than 10,000 drive units per week.
