Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() Tesla Motors has updated its four-door, all-electric saloon, the Model S. It now gets a 100 kWh battery pack in the top-end P100 D trim that has pumped up its range, speed, and acceleration figures. As a result, the updated, top-end Tesla Model S P100 D in Ludicrous mode can now accelerate from 0-100 km/h in an expected time of just 2.5 seconds in maximum power mode, while its range has been increased to around 507 kilometers. The aforementioned acceleration figure has made the Model S the third fastest car in the world, just a whisker behind the Ferrari LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder. But keeping in mind the fact that both of these limited production hypercars are already sold out, the Model S can indeed be termed as the fastest production car currently on sale. The Tesla Models S P100 D with the ludicrous mode will start at $134,500. The company is also giving the option where customers waiting for their P90 D Ludicrous model can upgrade to the 100 kWh battery by paying an additional sum of $10,000. Even those who have already taken deliveries of the P90 D Ludicrous can pay $20,000 to get the updated battery pack. In addition to the Model S sedan, the new battery pack will also be employed in the Tesla Model X. Starting at $135,500, the Model X P100 D Ludicrous is expected to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in over 2.9 seconds, while its range has been increased to 465 km. ![]() Link to Team-BHP News Last edited by dZired : 24th August 2016 at 11:39. |

| ![]() I sincerely hope Elon Musk and his top engineers & managers stay safe! The sheer pace with which these geniuses are pushing forward with making battery power the preferred mode of automobile propulsion would surely earn them a lot of enemies, including extremely dangerous ones! The international oil mafia is not to be taken lightly at all. They are among the most dangerous forces on Earth holding back the natural progression of the automobile, humankind and the planet itself. They deliberately finished off all earlier attempts to make electric cars commonplace on the roads. It's not just about a bunch of oil & natural gas companies and the ones who control these companies. For the international oil mafia also includes good-for-nothing rogue regimes & mafiocracies whose primary source of funding both their vicious hold on power and their heinous deeds (such as violently grabbing the land of neighbouring countries & funding of cold-blooded terrorists) depends solely on artificially high international prices of crude oil & natural gas. Such vile rogues are known to stop at nothing to achieve their diabolical goals. If Mr. Musk and his team are not careful, some scoundrel may come up with a new way of finishing them off under direct orders from his top boss (like shooting a polonium laced dart or some other dirty method invented by such vile beings). So stay safe, Elon Musk (& team)! You are the Henry Ford of this century. This planet cannot afford to lose you and your path-breaking work with advancing the future. The vile international oil mafia led by dangerous forces is understandably furious with you, for you are a great threat to them and their evil hold on power! | ![]() With the new battery update Tesla Model S is among the fastest production car ever made. It reaches 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds which makes it equal the likes of Ferrari LaFerrari, Porshe 918 Spyder, Bugatti Veyron Grand sport Vitesse ![]() While all those are 2 seater 2 door supercars which had limited production runs, Model S is 4 door 5 seater mass produced car ![]() Courtesy: Bloomberg. |

Team-BHP Support ![]() ![]() | ![]() An astonishing achievement, whatever way you look at it. The Model S is now as quick as the iconic Veyron & LaFerrari at a fraction of the price. Over and above that, it has space for your family, a boot, can be used as an everyday car, has zero tailpipe emissions and won't break the bank to run. Hats off to Elon Musk for making electric cars 'cool'. Till recently, F1 cars took the same time to touch 60 ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() Rightly, tesla says the present fuel cars will look like steam engines after some time. He has broken all the myths and prejudices with these cars. Welcome to the new world of electric cars. We are seeing history being made, let us see, how it unfolds. |

| ![]() Outstanding achievement, no two ways about it. But 0-100 time tells only a part of the performance story. Here is something not everyone knows, Teslas really struggle when it comes to rolling start drag races. That race between p85d and gt3 really took me by surprise when I first saw it. I dont think even the P100 D would stand a chance against a 911 turbo s in a rolling start. Last edited by nakul0888 : 25th August 2016 at 16:52. |

He is to this generation what Steve Jobs was to ours. Love the way he always targets the un-achieve-able. Like i imagined above, cant say soon he would make the USS Enterprise a reality. Been replaying this video since morning. Among the noise of the office, this beauty in my earphones. Just wow. | |

| ![]() Here is an idea for Elon Musk. Why not use the same battery pack and electric motors to make a two seater sports coupe. Then see how you can run around the world in circles. I surely think that half of that battery pack with a rwd configuration i.e. with two electric motors in the back with half the price tag can upset any sportscar manufacturer. Think about it, half the battery pack, half the motors, half the seats mean half the weight and half the cost (ofcourse it is more complicated than that) and the same acceleration figure and same range. That would be a killer. |

| ![]() I need a Tesla in my life! On a more serious note. Why is only Tesla being able to make such ground breaking and earth shattering electric cars. Why are we in India not able to get any daily commuters with a battery as the only and independent fuel source. Leave the high speed and acceleration aside but if we can have a maruti 800 type car that is practical to run and maintain and is also reasonably priced then it can definitely be a success. Mr. Modi needs to take this up as a challenge with Maruti and give them all the subsidies they need to make this technology viable and cost effective to apply it in a mass market product like a Maruti. I am not an economist but if we can substitute our fuel requirements with electricity then these oil producing nations have had it. Perhaps we can tap electricity generated from solar power farms to run cars like these. That will make the solar energy initiative even more attractive to invest into. We need the Government to make this a reality. It will do wonders for our balance of payments as crude oil contributes to 70% of our import bill. We surely cannot replace all crude oil imports but even if we can cut it by 50% then just imagine what the scenario will be??? By the way is Tesla coming to India. Had heard that Mr. Gadkari has visited Tesla and had made an offer to Mr. Elon Musk to set up a Gigafactory in India. Is it going to be a reality? As much as the tech, getting the assembly line aspects right is an equally incredible feat I think. Most of their competitors have had more than half a century to refine processes. Quote:

BHPian | ![]() Considering that by nature electric motors have maximum torque at zero rpm which is exactly the Achilles heel for IC engines; it is quite an achievement to see so many 'conventionally' propelled cars hovering so close to the Tesla's time! The hero supercars pushing the boundaries of technology (especially its limitations) is so evident here! Would it not be a realistic expectation that the next generation GTRs and Turbo Ss will inch that much closer (or maybe even surpass) the Tesla's record? ![]() |
