Even though this is in a very nascent stage, in future I see an income source for families staying adjacent to highways by way of charging points. There won't be any requirement to procure difficult to get things like explosive license,NOC etc. and investment on infrastructure also would be minimal. :)

The fast growing solar/renewable power sources would be the ideal power source for EVs. Read this in the news recently -

Solar power tariff dropped to a record low - Rs 2.62 per unit in the auction conducted for Bhadla solar park, Rajasthan (Avg price of coal fuelled power generation from NTPC Rs. 3.2 per unit.

Compare this with solar power tariff in 2010-11: Rs. 10.95 - 12.76

Also, global cumulative photovoltaic capacity is doubling every 2 years!

Actually this record price of Rs 2.62 per unit was for 250 MW capacity. Later in the same week, there was another record price of Rs 2.44 per unit for 500 MW capacity in the same solar park in Rajasthan.

I have read in an online and am quoting that as a reference point that EV's have only 200 moving parts as compared to more than 2000 in an internal combustion car as a result of which they can do like a million km or more without need of much maintenance. Also with a company like Maruti already setting up a plant to make lithium ion batteries in India they will surely look to launch some all electric models. Watch out Hyundai and the likes as Maruti may be outwitting all with this move.

Its quite opposite really. Hyundai already released all electric ioniq in 2016 itself. Its already the most efficient car in the USA according to EPA (Environmental Protection Agency - US govt agency).

Hyundai Ioniq electric has 28KWh battery and it has 124 miles (200 KM) range. It is praised by most of the reviewers. Hyundai already announced they will release the 200 mile model of Ioniq by next year (2018). There are also rumors of Hyundai bringing an all electric SUV next year with 200 miles range.

While Maruti announced battery plant but there are no concrete steps yet on that front. Also, they don't have any electric models in production or even proper hybrids. All they have as of now is silly SHVS hybrids.

Citizens need not come to Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) head office to charge their electric vehicles. Under the second phase of the project, from October, the energy department will start the process to set up 11 EV charging.
