Honda is now reportedly working on an important new global electric vehicle program in partnership with CATL, China’s biggest battery maker.

Production to start in 2020 for sale in China and other markets.

Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) has been signing a lot of contracts with automakers lately, including the Nissan-Renault, NEVS, and possibly even Apple.

The two companies will develop the car based on Honda’s Fit mini vehicle. The goal is to create an affordable electric car priced at slightly more than 2 million yen ($18,000) equipped with a small battery and having a relatively short range of 300km on a single charge

They are reportedly planning for 100,000 units per year, which is significantly more than most EV programs today aside from Tesla’s Model 3 production program.

2019 Honda FIT/Jazz to go Hybrid and will go the Crossover way! Coming in 2019 Autumn. Hybrid is speculated a fuel efficiency of 40 km / L.

Honda begins testing its fourth generation Jazz/ Fit in Europe.

the upcoming Fit EV would cost approximately $18,000 and would feature a small battery enabling a driving range of around 300 km (186 miles). The model will debut in China in the first half of 2020

Honda JAZZ EV / (Hybrid?)been spotted in India.

Unclear yet whether it will launch anytime soon in India as they announced their advent of EV in India by 2023-2024 only.

Volkman, thank you for this most encouraging news. One question - how do we know the test mule is a hybrid or EV? If it is then I am a very happy camper. The best replacement for my 2010 Honda Jazz would be a 2020 Plug-in Hybrid Honda Jazz.

The article says EV, but am leaning more towards this being a Hybrid. Maybe no exhaust is seen and hence the inference. ( --they could be right, as an EV).

But it will be surprising if it is an EV as usually Honda will not test their new launches here. Japanese are normally promoters of Hybrids than EV's.

A charging port above the front left wheel arch indicates that this could be an electric or hybrid.

However, this is the previous generation Jazz which is no longer on sale. Why would Honda test an old Jazz EV or hybrid for a launch in India? They could be testing a new platform or electric powertrain underneath with body of the old Jazz.

New Civic is already a vehicle available in global markets, but JAZZ/FIT EV is not yet launched anywhere and hence was surprising to see the EV ( assumption as in the article) being tested here too simultaneously.

Hi all,
On my way to office in Noida earlier today I spotted this funky new colour Honda Jazz.
Initial impressions, looks specifically, were someone has done a good job at tastefully modifying the gen one Jazz in India. I got ahead at the traffic signal to realise it's front looks a bit too different (in a nice way though).
I was driving next to it when I saw the charging flap on the front left fender. It had no fuel filler caps at rear neither on left nor on right instead a flap on front deny on each sides. They looked a bit like those I have seen on internet, on electric vehicles. A quick run through the internet confirmed this is the EV India bound but not many front pics available.

Anyway, the car looked like earlier generation Jazz (with treatment done on glass of rear lights) except for front albeit just a tad bigger than the ones sold here. It had white rather cream coloured interiors.
Sadly, there were one or two hints which made me think it's probably some mod job like the headlights seem to have halogen bulbs. The rear lights looked aftermarket. And the design of the car looked a bit passe although I personally love this design on this car and the one it tried to replicate.

Matches the next gen Jazz, discussed here (Next-gen Honda Jazz Type R images leaked). But I am surprised that it's a EV that you noticed, if true. Honda's strategy is usually one of extreme caution. In the absence of any charging infrastructure their venture in EV is surprising, pleasantly though. Will we have a affordable EV with this? They can't ask north of 20 lakh for a car that sells under 10 otherwise, can they?

Obviously this a mule based on prev-gen Jazz which means.

1. Honda testing powertrain for future EV models as part of its global testing program. Those who remember that mystreious Honda Euro Spec Accord diesel tested in India for years would understand.

2. Honda testing future mild-hybrid system for new Jazz as well as City that will come to India as well. Based on I-MMD system but a low cost version.

Correct me if I am wrong.

I had seen the same car many a time in Ring Road and once trailed her from Moolchand to AIIMS. It was calm and composed. Really interested to know the spec.

A $18000 price would be similar to a Civic. So we can expect it to cost the same as Civic in India ?
Other than the boot, I think it doesnt lose much compared to the civic sizewise
