Re: Tesla plans to launch compact hatchback by 2023

Tesla $25K model timeline from Chinese Media IT Home:
. Model already approved, 09/2020
. Product certification, 03/2021
. First delivery, 2022
. Rumor Tesla will show M2 in Guangzhou Auto show in 11/2021.

Re: Tesla plans to launch compact hatchback by 2023

Tesla's Cheap ( Model 2 ?)$25,000 Car Could Cost Just $19,000!!

Quote:
the $25k Tesla could come sooner than expected because the design phase has already started in China. The new model will be built in Giga Shanghai, which is extremely efficient and can pump out EVs very quickly.
Quote:
that a $25k Tesla would be very basic, but still have all the positives that come with a Tesla, such as battery efficiency, safety, and OTA updates.

For highway usage, EV owners face the following challenges in India:
1. Finding an EV charging station.
2. Finding a hotel/restaurant etc. that will allow them to charge the car using their electricity. Unless there is a way to measure how much electricity was consumed, an average Indian establishment by the highway side will be reluctant to offer the charging facility (I have read about EV owners making an electricity consumption meter for their EVs so that they can pay for the electricity used).
3. Time lost while waiting for the car to charge.
Thank you so much for your reply.
I have heard that there is a higher wattage charger available for EV, which can charge a vehicle in lesser time. Any idea if can I get this charger as an accessory TATA Nexon.
Regarding the electricity consumption meter you mentioned, do you know of any source where I can find out more about it.

I guess you are talking about the quick charger. I am not an EV user but as far as I know, EVs come with 2 types of chargers:
1. Regular charger meant to be compatible with all electricity sockets used in India.
2. Special (fast) chargers for which some equipment is installed at the home of the EV customer by the car manufacturer.

Check this product on amazon. This what the meter intends to do.

Re: Tesla plans to launch compact hatchback by 2023

New Tesla electric car will not carry Model 2 name.

Elon Musk has already confirmed that the new Tesla hatchback is going to cost $25,000, which is around £18,000.

Elon Musk has ruled out the Model 2 name for an upcoming new hatchback from the EV specialists.

New Tesla hatchback confirmed
Revealed in exclusive renderings
New tabless battery design
Lightweight construction
180 miles of range possible
Fully autonomous driving promised
Will cost from around £18,000
Won’t use Model 2 name
Set to arrive in 2023

This new Tesla hatchback is going to have a new kind of battery that’s more powerful, safer and cheaper thanks to its tabless design that uses a new kind of connector to join the individual cells together.

Quote:
These are about 35% smaller than conventional batteries and can store and release more electrical energy with less risk of them overheating. Tesla says its new cars will have about 16% more range per kilowatt-hour of battery thanks to these new cells.

Even if this new car’s battery pack is half the capacity of the one in the Model 3 Standard Range Plus, its new ‘Tabless’ construction means it should manage at least 160 miles on a charge.

To put that into perspective, the entry-level Fiat 500 (which costs £23,000) has just 115 miles of range. That means this new Tesla will cost £5,000 less than that Fiat and could have almost 30% more range.

Tesla also plans to use the new car’s batteries as a structural part of the car’s construction.

Quote:
Tesla says its new structural batteries will have 370 fewer parts each than a normal battery, so they’ll be quicker to produce and use fewer materials too.

They’ll also help make the new car 10% lighter than a conventional electric car, which could boost the new car’s range by another 14% from around 160 miles to more like 180 miles.

Re: Tesla plans to launch compact hatchback by 2023

2023 is very optimistic.

They have lot of supply chain crunch.
The demand is pretty high post COVID.

With the current lineup, waiting periods are close to a year.

Considering CyberTruck launch, which has 1 Million + bookings, 2023 launch is not possible.

They need to build more factories before launching cars.

Tesla Is Not Currently Working On Cheap $25,000 Car.

We’re not currently working on the $25,000 car... At some point we will, but we have enough on our plate right now, too much on our plate, frankly

As we understand, people don't have to buy a less expensive car, because there will be plenty of autonomous taxis that provide an affordable transportation service.

Re: Tesla plans to launch compact hatchback by 2023

Tesla Model 2, an electric car made in Mexico.

Musk declined to go into more detail about the state of the development process. Curiously, he did reiterate his intention for the Model 2 to be produced in Mexico. More specifically, the new Tesla Gigafactory is being built in the neighboring United States.
Quote:
If all goes according to plan, the Model 2 will be unveiled before 2025. And it will be in that year when the first units arrive on the market. It will be equipped with an LFP battery whose capacity will exceed the 50 kWh barrier. In this way, it will declare a range of approximately 400 kilometers. A very interesting figure if we have the target selling price of around €25,000.

Re: Tesla plans to launch compact hatchback by 2023

Facing pressure as BYD overtakes Tesla's sales in the 4th quarter of 2023, Tesla draws plans for the launch of 'Model 2'

- Price target of ~ 25k Euros.
- Tesla has reportedly told its suppliers of its intentions to start production of its new budget electric car by mid-2025.
- Under the internal code "Redwood," this new model would be, as described by some of the people familiar with the matter, a compact crossover.
- Tesla Model 2 (the name is yet to be confirmed) and the company's autonomous robotaxi will be sitting on a completely new platform, with the internal name of "NV9X".
- The smallest in the Tesla range, with an LFP battery that would be around 50 kWh in capacity for an approximate range of about 400 kilometers.
- Tesla last year forecast a weekly production volume for its next Model 2 of about 10,000 units and a combined sales potential, in the case of the brand's next two new products of 5 million vehicles a year.

Where the Tesla Model 2 will be made?

- Talks on it being built in Mexico, India, US, China or Germany

- Texas emerges as the favorite after Musk's statements last year, but from China it is already said that Tesla would be restarting the third phase of its Gigafactory in Shanghai, which could mean that the future Model 2 will also have a place there.

Knowing Tesla's overoptimistic plans again and that, "most likely, volume production will start in 2026".

Re: Tesla plans to launch compact hatchback by 2023

Old concept new terminology - Tesla calls it 'Unboxed.'

Tesla’s New Unboxed Assembly Could Slash $25,000 EV’s Production Costs By 50%
Tesla is introducing a revolutionary "unboxed" approach, assembling key components simultaneously before final assembly.

Quote:
Small teams will assemble key components before these parts are combined in the final assembly.
Analysts say the new way of building a car could reduce manufacturing footprints by over 40%.

For all the potential savings of the unboxed method, it remains unproven and will require Tesla to adopt a completely new assembly process which may cause delays.

Re: Tesla plans to launch compact hatchback by 2023

Tesla scraps low-cost car plans, Musk denies the report.

Quote:
Entry-level Tesla car won’t be built.
Tesla to focus on self-driving taxis instead.
Strategy shift comes as Tesla faces competition from China EV makers including BYD.
Tesla’s cheapest current model, the Model 3 sedan, retails for about $39,000 in the United States.
