Will this be called the MG Midget by any chance?

Gurgaon is where MG is headquartered!

MG had earlier mentioned that they are testing EVs in India. Good to finally see one.

But I hope MG has lined up other EVs too. 2-doors have traditionally not worked in India (original Reva), although I think the market is now more mature to accept one as a city car. Still, the numbers will be minuscule. Indian customers don't easily adopt radical / different products (case in point = Nano).

It costs Rs. 5 - 6 lakhs in China, and that's after HEAVY government subsidies. Without them, it'll be over 2X that.

Cute little thing for cities though! Ladies might like it for office commutes - if the price is not too wrong.

.

Looks like the advertisement is heavily targeted at ladies in China as well -

They show some crash test footage as well above, but can't find any NCAP results online.

Very interesting!

Just looked up on the net and found this:

https://insideevs.com/general-motors...r-priced-5300/

Copying text here:

Quote:
SAIC-GM-Wuling has launched the Baojun E100. Itís the first pure electric offering from the brand and will be available in two variants starting at RMB 35,800 (~US $5,300) after subsidies.

The E100 finds power from one motor, which puts out 110 N∑m (74 lb-ft) of torque and 29 kW of power. Itís the ideal city car for China, with a range of up to 155 km (96 miles) on a single charge. Additionally, it has the capability to travel on the expressway, with its top speed of 100 km/h (62 mph). The E100 can be fully charged in 7.5 hours, and uses regenerative braking to add range while driving.

The stylish and tiny urban EV measures 1,600 mm at its wheelbase, with a height of 1,670 mm. It seats two adults comfortably and has an impressive turning radius of 3.7 meters, meaning it can easily maneuver in and out of Chinaís cramped parking spaces and congested alleys.

The E100 comes with a handful of basic safety features, including a pedestrian alert system, parking sensors, and child safety seat locks. It also includes standard anti-lock brakes, electric power steering, and an electronic parking brake. Suspension is independent up front, with single-arm in the rear.

Interior features include a 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system and onboard Wi-Fi. The premium version gets a touchpad controller, keyless entry, and an air filter.

Sales started in Liuzhou, Guangxi in July, but were limited to 10 vehicles. Over 5,000 people applied to get a hand on the first 200 E100s. However, only another 500 will be available in Guangxi presently.
I am not sure if I am right, but roughly USD 5300 converts to INR 3.64 lakh. I guess the customer will have to pay at least 7 lakh! Scary!!

Given that China has a strong long term Govt. support for electric cars and is by far the largest electric car/hybrid car market in the world it is likely that their products will suit us better in size, cost and capability than the Tesla. This certainly will be a car I will check out with seriousness in 2020.
