WagonR EV interiors, gets LED lights.

The prototypes are said to be powered by a 72 volt system with 10 to 25 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

I have two questions,

1) Any idea on the progress of the Li-On Maruti/Toshiba factory in Gujarat?
2) Is there any plan for a nationwide DC-fast charging charging network?

Other than that, this looks very promising. However, a 25 kWh battery with a range of 200 km? That would make this the most efficient EV on the planet!

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

The interior looks like some amateur prototype thing. Is this how the new WagonR is too or they have changed this for being a electric vehicle ?
5 to 6 lakh would be a dream and dont think it will be possible. I think they should have chosen some decent platform instead of this model

Looks like a very rough prototype given it has a rev counter. I don't see an EV to have a rev counter since most don't have a transmission with choice of different ratios.

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

Maruti Suzuki says feedback from test data of EV's is positive, new vehicle launch on track for 2020, but is apprehensive about availability of charging points.

All EV's will have to be in a new platform as the current generation platforms do not support the EV's.

Quote:
The initial feedback from the test vehicles has been positive but the testing has to go on for some more time. After all our EV strategy is based on it. But we are committed to the deadline of 2020 rollout

Quote:
Though the government has promised infrastructure of one charging point every three kilometres on the highway but a similar promise was made even during the rollout of CNG fuel. Even today CNG stations are inadequate but demand for CNG vehicles is still very high

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

Fisrt electric car from Maruti Suzuki - the WagonR based EV will cost approximately the same as of premium hatchbacks - Baleno and i20 and pegged at ~10 lakhs.

Maruti will Target Fleet, Shared Mobility Buyers With Its Upcoming Electric Car and not depend much on private owners for its sales.

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

Thanks for the nissan links. I had read pretty much all about the Tesla ones and have been guilty of reading them more exclusively while not paying attention to the others!

I know there have been cases where Tesla has replaced the batteries free of cost as a goodwill gesture without concerning itself with the out-of-warranty formalities.

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

With Maruti Suzuki looking at EVs with this degree of seriousness it is only a matter of time before the first small plug-in hybrids from them start entering the market. Maruti and probably Hyundai are the only ones capable of investing to build these at a competitive price and invest to build and educate the market. I have had two 15 amp sockets installed at my parking spots in the apartment basement parking in anticipation of one day soon enough to have a practical yet well appointed plug-in hybrid.

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

Spotted testing today in Mumbai. I liked the looks. Yes it is tall and boxy but they have got the proportions right. If would be great if this makes it to production spec. It was doing good speed and seemed to have enough grunt even at 50 kmph

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

I saw this electric car a couple of weeks ago on Delhi Jaipur highway pretty close to Manesar. The driver was doing steady 35 kmph on the rightmost lane, which is why I spotted it in the first place. Could not click any pictures. Appeared a bit longer than Wagon R. No pictures sadly.
