Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

^^In all probability, this model of the Wagon-R will not be launched in India. These are for test purposes only.

Circle marked on hood shows a dent and other circles show coolant leakage. Possibly this car met with an accident.

I think the cooling circuit is to cool the battery pack and works in a similar fashion as that on an IC engine.

Thanks to Dr. Mouli for sending this image in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

Spotted in Himachal. Just goes to show the kind of testing that manufacturers put their future cars & tech through:

Re: Camouflaged Maruti WagonR spied - Is this the electric version?

Spotted this WagonR EV labelled "V 17" in central Delhi.

Edit: it was peak traffic but the car did seem sprightly!

Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India-imageuploadedbyteambhp1569840744.643030.jpg

Spotted this morning on Thane-Belapur Road, near Airoli, in Navi Mumbai, accompanied by its sister-ship #29. Were keeping pace with traffic and the acceleration was rather brisk.

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

Maruti will not be launching electric Wagon R for personal use. During the quarterly results announcement of the company, Maruti Suzuki India Chairman R C Bhargava told, ""Wagon R electric is not going to be launched commercially for public use at the moment. It won't be available for public,". This is contrary to what they said earlier about Wagon R EV.

I believe Maruti (and Suzuki) does not have the technology nor the roadmap to develop EVs. They are trying to blame it on the govt for their struggles. Even the Suzuki president tried to blame it on Indian power supply issues.

Indian EV policy which includes low GST (5% vs 31-50%), subsidies for 2/3 wheelers, fleet cars, buses, subsidies for charging infrastructure, etc... is among the best across the world IMHO.

I think EVs will provide the best opportunity for Hyundai/Kia duo to dethrone the Maruti Suzuki from pole position. This will also be a great opportunity for the Indian companies like Tata, Mahindra to garner decent market share as they have decent line up of EVs coming in the next 2-3 years.

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

An insider tells me that the vehicle prototypes were ready but they were not happy with the range and reliability being achieved with the current technology and the potential pitfalls of bringing foreign tech without indianisation (Flood resistance, high ac usage due to heat, potholes and bad roads etc) scared them. They have thus delayed their plans by some time to increase robustness of system and for reduction of price differential vis a vis gasoline engine cars.

I agree, Maruti is simply not interested in selling EVs and are looking for excuses.
If we see good launched by other manufacturers over the next 2 years, Maruti will be a laggard in that sense. The fact that EVs do not require much maintenance will be an added factor for first movers in this space.

I don't think this is possible anytime soon. EV's itself will take a long time to go mainstream.
Even if everything is okay in terms of infrastructure, Range, etc the main hurdle against it will be its pricing and that is where Suzuki-Toyota's EV's will be a game changer and for that they need time for a robust product as it will be mass offering and cannot afford any recalls or glitch in production units.

The concept will preview a future SUV from Maruti, though the final production version is unlikely to be an electric-only model. Displaying an electric SUV will help Maruti pitch itself as a future-ready brand,

Suzuki Applies Patent For Distinct Car Running Sound For Upcoming EV

Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) has applied for patent rights to a distinct car running sound in relation to a certain type of automobiles. More precisely, the sound of a jet aircraft could be used for its upcoming EV, as manufacturers tend to manipulate the electrified vehicles in a different manner for pedestrians or passerby just to notify that they are on their way
