Renault has debuted the K-ZE all-electric crossover at the Paris Motor Show 2018.

The carmaker claims that the vehicle will be an affordable compact SUV which will go on sale in 2019.

Renault already produces electric cars with the popular and successful ZOE being at the forefront on which.

Today, the firm has announced that the next urban electric car will launch in 2019, initially in China before entering other markets.

The vehicle will gain around 155-miles of claimed range on a single charge but Renault used the NEDC cycle opposed to the new WLTP.

What this means is that real-world range will be closer to 119 miles than the claimed 155.

The design may be decisive but it borrows elements from the attractive Captur which bolsters its appeal.

It has opted for an interesting take on the faux-grille, making it into a centerpiece design feature rather than just blocking it off or removing it completely.

At the rear of the car, it is pretty familiar in terms of classic Renault SUV design.

It will be manufactured locally by e-GT New Energy Automotive Co, the Joint Venture with Dongfeng Motor Group and Nissan created to develop and produce competitive electric vehicles for the Chinese market.

China: Electric Renault Kwid launched at Rs. 6.20 lakh

Renault has launched the electric Kwid in China. It is available in three variants with prices starting at around Rs. 6.20 lakh.



The car measures 3,735 mm in length and 1,579 mm in width with a wheelbase of 2,423 mm. It comes with LED daytime running lights, headlamps set low in the front bumper and a grille with U-shaped inserts. On the inside, it comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen head-unit with 4G WiFi connectivity. Other features available include vehicle remote control and vehicle remote diagnosis.

The hatchback comes with a 26.8 kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor producing 44 BHP and 124 Nm. The car's top speed is claimed to be 105 km/h. The claimed NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) range of the car is 271 km. With DC fast charging, the battery is claimed to charge to 80% in 50 minutes and with AC slow charging, it is claimed to take 4 hours to charge to full. The car is also equipped with a battery intelligent temperature control system and an energy recovery system.

Really interesting! 6.2L for 271km range is pretty good. Top speed of 105kmph. If Renault can bring this car to India with price less than 7L then it will be game changer. This will force infrastructure changes starting from home to public places.

271 km range is based on NEDC system which is way over optimistic. The real world range will be close to 190 Kms (270 * 0.7). 190 kms will be still a decent range and much better than Tigor and Verito EVs.

The specs look pretty impressive. Assuming even 180 km of real-world range can make such a car the one to set the ball rolling for EVs in India. Remember, even when Tesla establishes itself, it is not going to transform the Indian market because they don't make small cars.
