Re: The Hyundai Kona electric SUV, now launched @ 25.3 lakhs

What is the price reduction after the GST cut? Also, are these going to get a preferential Road Tax.

Another point, will the BS-VI apply to this also.

Price reduction is 1.59 lakh. I don't think BS-VI will apply since there are no emissions technically.

Hyundai has announced new price as 23.71 lacs (23.91 for dual tone).

I'm not sure about the preferential Road Tax.

Why is Kona priced 29.5 lacs in Kerala while it is lower in bigger cities? Is it due to some additional tax by state govt?

There are no sops on road tax for electric vehicles yet in Kerala

For cars that cost above 20Lakhs, the road tax is 20%. Also there is a 1% Flood Cess above GST from August 1st, so the actual on road price will infact be more than the figure quoted above.

This is also the situation in many other states as well.

Well, that sucks. Kerala government talks a lot how so many EVs they want on road by so and so time but aren't ready to do anything. Road tax waiver for a few years is an easy and effective push without that much revenue loss to the government.

Re: The Hyundai Kona electric SUV, now launched @ 25.3 lakhs

Hi all - I test drove the Kona yesterday! It is MAD! You can engage a wheelspin at any speed - the car feels fantastic, although eerily silent - it definitely needs to make some noise (take a cue from the Harley Livewire, Hyundai)!

My wife loved the interiors too - our only gripe was that the range felt unsatisfactory and that the rear legroom was left wanting. Right now Hyundai is bundling the quick charger free with the car so at 23.71 it looks really good as a deal - the registration charges are as yet unknown though.

Unfortunately, we rejected it due to range anxiety issues (we travel 300+ km on weekends so that was a big reason)

If this is a harbinger of the future, bring it on! We are pretty clear that the car we book this time will be our last fossil fuel car.

If you don't know what I mean by the Livewire's noise - see this link:

Of course not, there is no 'tail pipe' and the 'tail pipe emission norms' won't apply. But I hope the regulatory bodies would take note of the total CO2 footprint of an EV and associated services, including the scraping/disposal and accordingly come up with certain standards.

I fail to understand why there is so much emphasis on sound in the Harley Video? Is it appealing? Is it a selling point? The 'sound' being the Harley signature. Will it appeal to existing customers, or will it create a new bunch of followers? Coming back to Kona, the range is the best ever we will get to see in India (for time being)

Re: The Hyundai Kona electric SUV, now launched @ 25.3 lakhs

I like fast cars that don't make noise. I love my e scooter for this exact reason. Upcoming Revolt 400 has fake exhaust sounds (primarily aimed at college kids) but good thing is those can be just switched off. In Europe they have mandated certain minimum sound for EVs at low speeds primarily for pedestrian alert but that's about it.

This could be a game changer for Hyundai. While the infrastructure for electric vehicles is still limited in India, a car with a range such as this should still draw buyers.
