I love the conventional front grill for car, which Kona is missing.
For an electric vehicle air intake is not required but for the look and feel grill is must.

The Kona is an another success story from Hyundai, well executed car. Found 2 cars in kochi since launch

So yesterday the RSA executive from Bajaj allianz visited for the installation of the wall mounted charger.
Took them around an hour to install the same. He also asked me to get the 15 amp socket installed for the portable charger and recommended a protective casing with lock around the complete unit.

It takes the charger around 30-60 sec to turn on, then there is a card like a credit card that needs to be swiped for the charger to get in charging mode. Once this state is reached then you can connect the cable to the car.
To stop charging the card again needs to be swiped and it takes about 20 sec before you can detach the cable from the car.

The car display showed 70% battery and about 2hrs to 100%.

Some pics of the car

Wow. The Black looks really sweet. Stealth is the word.
Congrats on your purchase. You have advanced from us normal beings by one step to save the planet. The future is definitely electric and I would definitely want to get the same for my next car.

@sheldon.dz congratulations on the car. This car deserves a separate ownership thread, hopefully you are working on one.

Sheldon, congrats man!

The future is definitely going to be engines based on alternate fuel - fuel cell, electric or something else, I'm not sure what is going to become mainstream.

Treat us to a good ownership report?

Thanks. Typically max power provided to residential homes and apartments is 5KW. The wall mounted charger is 7KW. Were there any changes made by your electricity service provider to factor in additional power?

Re: The Hyundai Kona electric SUV, now launched @ 25.3 lakhs

No additional changes the electrician just did the cabeling work connecting my meter to the charger. Now the hyundai guy has also asked to install a 15amp plug point at the side of the charger for the portable charger.

They could have made this charger slightly more stylish (transformer-ish). Ather scooter chargers are drool-worthy!

Congratulations on the Kona EV. I TD it recently and really liked it but found the price high. I think Hyundai as a brand is very expensive to maintain with frequent break downs compared to Honda. That's why sold my Hyundai car and bought Honda instead and till date fully satisfied and content with the move. No one can beat reliability / ease of ownership of Honda.

What factors went in your decision making process ? I'm eagerly waiting for launch of tesla in India but let's see when that happens.

Re: The Hyundai Kona electric SUV, now launched @ 25.3 lakhs

Well as mentioned in my previous post, i had never thought of buying an EV until Hyundai actually listed it on their website.

Since this was CKD and most international reviews of this model were +ve i chose the Kona.

Other factors that made me move forward with the decision was lack of new Diesel automatic launches. If Jeep/Harrier had launched diesel automatics early on i would have been driving one of those today.

This is a surprise. Thanks for pointing out these hidden costs.

How many meters of cabling was this? Or do you have the per-meter cost?

This sounds rather irritating.

A lot of little things (eg. the scheduled charging + ability to cancel it from near the charging point + swiping cards etc) lead me to believe that Hyundai designed this car with heavy fleet use in mind too.

That's fair enough, but when an individual customer has to swipe a card to start & stop charging - that's just painful. There should have been a way to disable this.

Where are you getting the 5KW figure? Are you sure that's max power, or is it average consumption?

I can't see any reason why you should do this. Can you?
[EDIT: Thought of one: You won't have to swipe a card to start/stop charging ]

Please don't just follow their recommendation blindly.

Congrats again! Black car looks sweet, and the green plates actually look cool on it.

They did not end up charging anything for the installation. The RSA executive said its a free installation.

I will need to get this costing from my building maintenance team, have not followed up with them.

Will most probably install this at my wife's home in Mumbai, would require to use the portable charge there as a round trip on single charge wont be possible.

I think so, it's mentioned in your electricity bill.
My bill mentions 5KW.
