| ![]() Good move by Hyundai to launch a pure electric vehicle. It may be to show technology prowess and it might be a halo product. The EV infrastructure is simply isn’t present now in India and will take at least a couple of years. I’m guessing that Kona EV will be followed by Ioniq hybrids and those will sell in decent numbers. The IC powered Kona was spotted testing sometime back and TBHP even has the pictures of the same uploaded as well. We can find it here in the background. Since no one was talking about the Kona, I was under the impression that it has a separate thread. I did not bother to search for it. Last edited by GTO : 14th October 2018 at 09:00. | ![]() Watching with great interest. Is this pure EV or Plug-In Hybrid. Dear Hyundai - one in number early adapter customer here. |

| ![]() Kudos to Hyundai for taking this initiative and that too in a CKD form instead of CBU. I am sure this would give them the first mover advantage and I hope this turns out to be a reasonable success. I am getting a feeling that Hyundai is making all the necessary moves to keep us happy, which is kind of lacking in case of other big players in our market. | ![]() Genuinely excited for this. The car was present at the Move India summit held recently too. I hope they price it right. If the GOI also steps in with some initiatives favouring the fully electric car, that'd be just cherry. I have seen the Kona around, and it is quite a good looking car, with very appropriate urban Indian dimensions. |

| ![]() Good move by Hyundai to bring the Kona EV to India. Pricing is key for any EV in the Indian market but the Kona will probably serve as a halo product bringing people into the showrooms. Hyundai has recognised the potential of EVs in India and with the launch of the Kona, other manufacturers will follow. Hyundai will have a first-mover advantage. Hope the government soon offers incentives and major discounts for electric car buyers. |

BHPian ![]() | ![]() That's one smart looking SUV from Hyundai, and its a good step forward and a good initiative from Hyundai to launch a full fledged electric SUV in Indian market which is crazy about SUVs. But need to see how well the customers will take to it. I feel the sales numbers will be quite low unless the government provides more subsidies to encourage sales of EVs. | ![]() Is there a real market for EV SUVs in India ? Or is this more to prove their tech competency to the market or maybe even the govt, for getting meatier contracts later ? |

| ![]() Hyundai Kona Electric sports a modern design with the sleek coupe-like styling. Being a CBU unit, the SUV will be positioned in the range of INR 20 lakh to INR 25 lakh (ex-showroom). As per report, the body and platform of Kona SUV are taken over from the petrol or diesel engine models. Hence, it is obviously not an all-electric model. Hyundai has set the target to sell the car at around 50-60 units monthly. I am really looking forward to its official launch date. Quote:

![]() Nice scoop indeed. But it would be nice if at Team-bhp we can discourage such scoops when the OP is driving the car and taking pics. From the pictures, its almost clear he is driving while taking pics and risking everyone around him and himself. We should either not entertain such post or put a disclaimer on how this does not reflect our views/positions and that we strictly discourage this. | |
