One thing the Indian market has proved is that, by simply undercutting an established Hyundai/Toyota product on price does not guarantee any form of market success. i.e saying your product will go head to head against a Creta or Innova and pricing it cheaper only goes so far.

The 5 year old Creta currently outsells the XUV300 3:1 !

Simply being good enough to compete will not cut it for the consumer. Either make a far better product or price it considerably lower. Otherwise it will end up in no mans land, a trend clearly visible with the likes of the XUV300, Marazzo, Alturas etc.

Re: Mahindra to launch XUV300 EV to rival Kona EV

Its great to see EV options blossoming at such a fast pace. I believe its a matter of a decade or so before EVs start outselling ICE-Vs in Urban India.

Assuming the e-XUV 300 retains the safety/build of its ICE sibling, it would be the safest mid-market EV in India. Will also await warranty details - a good indicator of how well the electric drivetrain is engineered.

Meanwhile, Tesla and Nissan (Leaf) are missing the India EV bus in a big way.

2020 Auto Expo: Mahindra eXUV300 electric SUV unveiled

Mahindra has unveiled the eXUV300 all-electric SUV at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo.

The eXUV300 is based on the Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture (MESMA) platform. It features a blanked-off grille and wraparound headlamps. The car has blue accents around the headlights and on the bumper. It has blacked-out A and C-pillars, while the B-pillars are finished in grey.

The Mahindra eXUV300 is powered by a 350 V powertrain. A 380 V version could be added later, which could compete with the likes of the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV. Mahindra could also offer a third battery option with a longer range. The car uses lithium-ion batteries developed by Korean battery maker LG Chem.

Mahindra's electric XUV300 to cost Rs 8.25 lakh!

The official Twitter handle Mahindra Electric reveals the price in a reply to someone's tweet.

Thought it was a typo or an error, but saw the same reply for another person's tweet too. Also note that it is expected to be launched next year but not this year.

8.25L is the price for the eKUV100 which was launched at the Expo and not the eXUV3OO.

Mahindra social media guy might be confused or is mentioning price of petrol cause the car was in essence the petrol version with EV badging.

Re: Mahindra to launch XUV300 EV to rival Kona EV

Mahindra's high voltage systems are not production ready yet. This can be seen from their absence in bidding for the electric buses, using a Rimac powertrain in the Pininfarina Battista and from the smoke and mirrors around the XUV300 display unit in Auto expo. The last known timeline for the launch was second half of 2021 for the XUV300. I wouldn't hold my breath for it in the near future. I am happy to be proven wrong.

re: Mahindra XUV400 Electric to get 350 - 400 km range

I think I caught an electric XUV300 the other night. Traffic was thick so could not get hear it but I could not figure why only the fuel filler sideways disguised. I they dressed it like a normal XUV300, no one would have noticed.

Re: Mahindra to launch XUV300 EV to rival Kona EV

Mahindra’s electric XUV300 likely to be christened XUV400

Quote:
At a recent press conference Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director, auto and farm sectors at Mahindra Group, said “We may name that [the electric version of 300] the XUV 400, we believe it has an opportunity to be named differently.” However, Jejurikar added that “this still a codename”.
Quote:
The XUV400 name was to be used for an all-new 4.3m midsize SUV that was to sit above the current XUV300 and below the now-discontinued XUV500 in Mahindra’s line-up. This SUV (codenamed S204), touted as a Creta rival, was to be co-developed with Ford on its B-platform, which would then also have a Ford variant (internally called B705). However, with the partnership now called off, Mahindra could easily use the XUV400 badge, as the development of a new 4.3m SUV would take some time.

Mahindra XUV300 electric spotted testing in Chennai

The electric version of the Mahindra XUV300 has been spotted testing on the outskirts of Chennai.

The eXUV300 was first showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. The electric SUV gets a blanked-out front grille and has a charging port on the front fender.

The interior of the car will be identical to its ICE-powered counterpart. The concept was equipped with a larger touchscreen infotainment system and had a bespoke instrument cluster.

Mahindra is yet to reveal the technical details of the eXUV300, but given the fact that it will lock horns with the Tata Nexon EV, we can expect a 30-40 kWh battery pack. It could offer a maximum range of over 300 km on a single charge.

re: Mahindra XUV400 Electric to get 350 - 400 km range

The new pictures are very reassuring. This looks more like a production ready version than an early prototype and I believe the launch is very close now. This will really spice up the EV space where Tata has been enjoying complete monopoly.

It looks like it's riding very low, though. Maybe because of the batteries on the floorboard?

Spotted what seems like the XUV300 electric undergoing testing on the Hosur Road. Only thing I have to say is that the way it was zooming past my Liva is that damn it is going to be fast

re: Mahindra XUV400 Electric to get 350 - 400 km range

M&M confirms launch of electric XUV300 in Q1 2023.
Will be a 4.2 metre long SUV and NOT sub-4-metre. No tax benefit for EVs (for sub 4m) so making most length.
