Re: Mahindra XUV400 Electric to get 350 - 400 km range

XUV4OO spied in a video shared by Auto Comparo you tube channel, the vehicle seems to be heavily camouflaged but we can see the fender charging port & redesigned rear bumper.

XUV4OO is expected to have similarity with Ssangyong Korando Emotion.

New spy pics:

The car is covered in heavy camouflage, but we can see some details. We can see the rear profile of the car with a tweaked taillamp design. The car doesn’t come with a rear wiper indicating that this could be a mid-variant.

Re: Mahindra XUV400 Electric to get 350 - 400 km range

I think there are no sub 4m benefits for EVs in which case it is prudent to increase the length of the car. It has two immediate benefits. Increased boot space, the lack of sufficient boot space being a major concern in the present car, and second is the better stance from side which is very awkward now while the original Tivoli looks good. Let us see by how much the length is actually increased. If priced well, without compromising on its high quality levels, it can give serious competition to the Nexon EV

Re: Mahindra XUV400 Electric to get 350 - 400 km range

you are right, there is no benefit of 4m length for EV in terms of Taxation, however, most of the EV are based on ICE counterparts and they don't change anything on the body. They still have a transmission tunnel, huge engine bay, the list goes on.
Only when a vehicle is built from ground up to be EV is when all these will go away, the drag co-efficient reduces and range increases.

Re: Mahindra XUV400 Electric to get 350 - 400 km range

Hoping against hope but looking forward to this as a way to gauge what the facelift could be like on the XUV300 (rumoured for next year).

Of course assuming that the audio/head unit and MID units will be updated for the EV and give us a taste of things to come as their ‘basic’ styling were the main drawbacks of an otherwise excellent car. Since the EV won’t be sub 4m so the lack of space in the boot should also be resolved.

And the negative: Increased length means increased weight, which in turn means reduced range. Typically a 15% weight increase will reduce range by 20-25%.

Are you taking in account the increase in battery capacity because of increased length?

Important question is can they price it close to Nexon EV/EV Max, or drop a MOAB by pricing it lower.

Just the length wont increase the weight by so much. e.g the weight difference between 2022 Brezza and Grand Vitara isn't so much.

However the battery surely will add added weight. At the same time XUV300 ICE is among the heaviest not only in sub-4 meter category, but in the next segment including Creta, Seltos, Kushaq as well. So that surely will have some drag in FE and acceleration overall.

If Mahindra can price it very near (slightly above) the Nexon EV, and not over charge it just because of added length; they have a strong business case.

Re: Mahindra XUV400 Electric to get 350 - 400 km range

I keep reading that the battery chemistry is NMC and is sourced from LGChem. While it will be definitely lighter than LFP, I'm concerned about thermal stability and degradation vs LFP. There were fire incidents involving LGChem batteries. Plus there is this whole issue of cobalt being a conflict mineral.
