Whatsapp forward from our Xroaders group.

Milind is testing the car hands on with his wife. Looks like the car is being taken seriously and hope it delivers what it’s meant to do. Nexon is a handsome looking car and hope Tata makes it the best

Though air con would sap some power, i think it's trivial when compared to the load on battery in cold conditions.

In the photograph where you can see the celebs posing, what are those big bulges in the doors? Or am I seeing something others are not? Is it some kind of a reflection?

It is the extra padding to hide the door lines or new design of a car.

re: Tata builds a Nexon EV. EDIT: Launched at ₹13.99 lakhs

Looks like 300 KMs range is ARAI certified range which is disappointing. This is from the FAQ section on TATA Motor's official EV specific website. We only have ARAI certification. While unveiling ziptron technology Tata mentioned that it will enable 250+ KMs of range. Even in interviews earlier, Tata executives mentioned that Nexon will have more than 200 Kms of range. Now due to pathetic ARAI system they are claiming 300 kms of range.

ARAI should quickly adopt either European (WLTP) or US (EPA) systems for measuring realistic EV range. Their current system based on ideal conditions is awful and grossly misleading to public. Here is a comparison of how awful the ARAI system.

Hyundai Kona range (39.2 kWh battery):
WLTP - 289 km
ARAI - 452 km

ARAI range 56% more than WLTP system which is closer to real world range which includes mix of city and highway driving and different weather conditions. So the actual range will be ~64% of ARAI certified range which is abysmal. If we use the same conversion for Nexon EV, then the real range for it will be ~192 kms (300 x 0.64). In City driving it may get more than 192 kms in real usage, but the official numbers should include mix of usage and weather conditions rather than constant speed of 50 kms and ideal weather conditions. WLTP system along with overall range also mentions city/highway driving ranges and cold and mild weather ranges.

Exactly what i said yesterday

We can imply that Nexon EV will travel around 200 kms on a single charge in real world conditions. I am not saying this is bad but setting expectations right is necessary.

re: Tata builds a Nexon EV. EDIT: Launched at ₹13.99 lakhs

Tata’s initial range estimate was always 200km. If a statutory body in its infinite wisdom decides to certify it as 300+, it’s not Tata’s fault. Only reflects the credibility and competence of ARAI.

Regardless, a genuine 200km range is very very decent for all kinds of urban usage, especially considering the levels of performance expected (300Nm, Kona-like specs). Let’s hope Tata can keep this under 15L tops. Nexon is a 10L rupee car, and no buyer would be comfortable spending more money than 50% extra.

Indeed. Looks like this pre production car is still using the exterior body of existing generation. Facelift is not ready for a reveal yet. So the bulging front turn indicators. I feel the real EV will launch with the facelift avatar eventually.

Looks like the current spec steering has buttons on the right side as well. It has cruise control or something like that on it I guess.

So, they had to charge the vehicle after 150KMs. And no mention about the remaining charge before they plugged in.

Yes, no mention of remaining charge but in the app as shown, it is showing half charged if its the right picture.
