Hi, Got a Nexon EV(XZ+,Teal Blue) last month in Lucknow. The ZConnect app works sporadically for me. Not very accurate and takes its sweet time to function. Hope it will improve.

My Nexon EV is consistently showing 175-178 km range on full charge. Once it even showed 150Km range on 100%. Haven't done much driving yet (500km only). Also, the showroom rep said, there is some update in pipeline which would fix the issue. How has the range been for other owners so far?

This range is very worrisome. My minimum expectation was 200km range, for occasional longish drives (if not real long drives).

I have a booking, and was waiting for the lockdown to end. But, this is a deal breaker.

Indeed, this is a potential dealbreaker for me as a prospective customer. I was counting on a minimum of 200km and a regular of around 220km. This is reasonable considering the size of the battery and the 300km+ certification. 175km is rather low for a metropolis as big as Delhi-NCR; I’ll be looking at a proper recharge after every trip to the airport or to Greater Noida. Also, midnight runs to Murthal for parathas seem impossible.

Pls keep us updated for any change to the range or performance post the update.

Congratulations. Looking forward for an ownership review.
Did you have experience with EVs before? Hope the range improves to atleast 200KM as you understand the vehicle better.
I always see a big drop in the range of my E2O whenever my friends drive the car. The secret to optimizing range is slow acceleration and lesser braking.

Not just E2O, I think all the cars (even ICE) update the mileage (or distance left) on the screens based on the driving style. Observed it in Honda, Hyundai and Mahindra cars too.

Agree with what you said. Once one gets hold of the vehicle, the mileage improves.

Nexon EV outsells Hyundai Kona EV, MG ZS EV in March 2020. - Link
  • Nexon EV - 198 units
  • ZS EV - 116 units
  • Kona EV - March 2020 numbers awaited, expected to be inline/similar to ZS EV numbers or less (Since FY 2020 sales stood at 377 units, and year 2019 sales stood at 292 units, which means combined sales of Jan, Feb, & March 2020 is 85 units)

Did you hear from TATA A$$ if this is normal? What is the battery fineprint on the warranty?

Given there is no run-in for EVs, there is no hope the range could go up after a run of couple thousand kms.

Is this a clone of Tata Nexon. The vehicle has smaller motor compared to Nexon ev though.

Chinese companies are known to replicate vehicle designs. Nothing new about it, when they can have a replica Rolls Royce Phantom, Nexon is no big deal.

Anything cheaper than this will be dirt quality Chinese product. Nexon EV is available at incredibly attractive price. Just because it is Tata, doesn't mean that it should undercut every product out there.

Nexon EV retails for 17L on road for the mid Lux model here in Faridabad. Haryana government provides precious little subsidy or benefit on road tax. That’s not exactly cheap considering people are getting real world range of only 150-170km. Just not enough for Delhi NCR where distances are huge. A simple run to the airport and back will consume 75% range on a full charge. You’d want at least 200km minimum for the money spent, especially when they are advertising 300km+.

Nonetheless, everything else being the same, it should be fair to expect the Altroz EV to cost about 2L less. But Tata needs to fix the range if it is looking at at sustaining the numbers with its electrics.

‘Dirt quality Chinese product”? China is probably the most advanced country in electric vehicle production at the moment. Their technology is far more advanced and their product quality is far higher than ours not just in vehicles but across the board.

Correct.

Nexon is best VFM when compared to other EV's currently available in Indian market.
