Skoda launches new iV sub-brand for electric vehicles

Skoda has launched a new iV sub-brand which will concentrate on their electric and hybrid vehicles. The sub-brand consists of the Citigo iV and the Superb iV.

Skoda says that the 'V' in iV stands for 'vehicle' and claims that the cars will be intuitive and easy to operate. By 2025, the company estimates 25% of total sales to consist of electrified vehicles. In 2020, the company expects to launch two electric models based on Volkswagen's MEB platform and one of those cars could be a production version of the VISION iV SUV coupe. By 2022, Skoda expects to have more than 10 electrified cars under the iV sub-brand.

The Citigo iV is Skoda's first all-electric model. It will come with a 36.8‑kWh Lithium‑ion battery and an electric motor rated at 82 BHP and 210 Nm of torque. Skoda claims a 0-100 km/h time of 12.5 seconds and a top speed of 130 km/h. The range is said to be 265 km. Production is expected to begin in the second half of 2019.

The Superb iV is Skoda's first plug-in hybrid. It will be powered by a 1.4-liter TSi engine producing 154 BHP and an 85 kW electric motor. The total output is 215 BHP. It has a 13 kWh battery in the boot which the company claims offers 55 km of electric-only range. The car is claimed to meet Euro 6d emission norms with CO2 emissions below 40 g/km. A 6-speed DSG gearbox comes as standard.

Re: Skoda launches new iV sub-brand for electric vehicles

That's okay Skoda, please do create as many sub brands as you deem appropriate. The bottom line is to fix your bridge between product & customer (Dealership and ownership experience); otherwise your present brigade of champions (the dealers) will continue to loot customers even while servicing a pure electric machine (which may not require much of maintenance) or hybrid offerings (which require regular maintenance).

It seems electric vehicles are having an edge over fuel cells. Both developed as well as developing markets are witnessing a surge in eV sales and fresh launches right from players like Tesla looking at mass markets / developing countries; Hyundai ready to have a foot in the door through launch of Kona in India sometime second quarter of this FY. It seems the Euro VI roll out in India will trigger exit of small diesels and introduction of hybrid and pure electric offerings. This will certainly help in addressing the issues pertaining to vehicle range per charge and availability of charging infrastructure.

Last, it is equally important that standardization of charging protocol and procedures should complete before infrastructure investments begins in the country to ensure fungible / compatible infrastructure.

Find it utterly stupid that manufacturers are still creating new sub brands and other sister brands. It's already common knowledge that within next 10 years ICE is giving way to evolve into a EV. What is the point of creating further sub brands and sister brands at this juncture, rather take this opportunity to common out with small and incremental EV tech in their products in current models or future models. Another reason skoda and VAG struggle in India due to proper customer service standards. Please concentrate on that, give us Indians world class products ( not Indianised cheap quality which is unsafe and not on par with EU models ), and give us more model options with slow but steady EV technology updation. That should be enough skoda !!

Re: Skoda launches new iV sub-brand for electric vehicles

A GLIMPSE OF THE ŠKODA ENYAQ iV: REAR-WHEEL DRIVE, FIVE LEVELS OF PERFORMANCE.

Skoda launches new iV sub-brand for electric vehicles-skodaenyaqcovereddrive621440x960.jpg

The ENYAQ iV, ŠKODA’s first electric SUV, will be available to customers in various versions. Even a sporty RS one.

-At 4,648 millimetres long and 1,877 wide, the electric ENYAQ iV SUV will be slightly smaller than the standard ŠKODA KODIAQ

- But its height of 1,618 millimetres is a clear sign that the ENYAQ iV will have more dynamic qualities.

-The 585-litre luggage compartment is proof that the car is truly spacious.

-The ŠKODA ENYAQ iV in various design versions: either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, with three different battery capacities and five performance versions.

-The basic model will be the ŠKODA ENYAQ iV 50 with a battery capacity of 55 kWh, which will have a 109 kW electric motor mounted on the rear axle and will deliver a range of up to 340 kilometres per charge.

- Next up will be the ŠKODA ENYAQ iV 60 with a 132 kW electric motor and a 62 kWh battery. This version will have a range of 390 kilometres

-The biggest range, up to 500 kilometres, will be offered by the ŠKODA ENYAQ iV 80 with an 82 kWh battery capacity and a 150 kW electric motor.

-The two four-wheel-drive versions will also have the highest-capacity battery and a second electric motor at the front in addition to the one on the rear axle.

-The ŠKODA ENYAQ iV 80X will offer 195 kW of power, while the downright sporty RS will deliver 225 kW

-The most dynamic version will accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and have a top speed of 180 km/h.

- Both four-wheel-drive versions will have a maximum range of 460 kilometres.

- Charging capacity will be up to 125 kW, which will make it possible to charge the battery from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just forty minutes.

Re: Skoda launches new iV sub-brand for electric vehicles

Has Skoda India or VW India laid out a road map to introduce the iV (Superb, Kodiaq) & GTE (Passat etc) ranges respectively?

With the GoI ambivalent about PHEVs, I suspect not. We may have to wait till 2021/22 for the Enyaq type of (full) EVs from VAG.

No plans whatsoever to look at PHEV or Hybrids for India. The pricing with duties is simply unviable.

As told by Zac Hollis. They will look at it in future when they have lower priced products or the Govt. relaxes some duties but till then conventional power trains atleast for next 2-3 years.

Their focus is on lower end of the market.

Good news, Vid & happy to hear this! Now Zac can use his considerable charm and influence to get us the 'vanilla' Octavia RS next year , instead of mucking about with the RS iV.

Not confirmed or official but the new RS he said was only a year after the launch of the regular one so my guess is 2022 best case.

Just came across this terminology while looking up something on PHEV. Source: Wikipedia

Quote:
A plug-in hybrid's all-electric range is designated by PHEV-[miles] or PHEV[kilometers]km in which the number represents the distance the vehicle can travel on battery power alone. For example, a PHEV-20 can travel twenty miles (32 km) without using its combustion engine, so it may also be designated as a PHEV32km.
