Re: MG EZS electric SUV to be built in India

Got a call from MG Motors, Electronic City. Booking have begun with an amount of 50K. The dealership has already received 20 bookings so far.
Pricing will be announced in Jan. Tentative pricing mentioned by the Sales executive is between 22-25L. If the pricing is as per the sales guy, I am disappointed. Kona feels more value for money compared to ZS EV.

So they can use only the portable home charger to charge their MGS only after ensuring that no other heavy appliance like mixie, geyser, AC etc are running at the time the EV is charging. Homes with 3 Phase connection can manage with the type 2 AC charger provided their sanctioned load is above 8KW. This allows those households to continue using other home appliances while is EV is charging.
You can request the Electricity suppliers to increase the sanctioned load. Many customers of Kona have already got this done from Bescom in Bangalore. Also there is a different pricing for EV charging at least in Bangalore.

Re: MG EZS electric SUV to be built in India

Updates from the ZS EV launch livestream:
  • The MG ZS EV all-electric SUV is expected to get a higher capacity motor in its India-spec avatar. This 150hp electric motor will get power from a 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery and in the Indian cycle, the range should be close to 340 Kms. ARAI rating should be higher.
  • MG is setting up a five tier charging infrastructure. Customers of the MG ZS EV electric SUV can charge the vehicle in these ways:
    1. Onboard cable(standard) - A portable charger will be supplied alongside each ZS EV by which the customer can charger the car through any
      standard three-pin socket.
    2. DC fast charger(installed at home or location of preference)
    3. DC superfast charger (selected dealerships) - 50KW
    4. Charging network - MG will install network of fast chargers across India
    5. Roadside assistance - Charging on the go
  • With the ZS EV, the company will likely offer a fast charger along with a regular AC charging unit. The DC fast charger ( Installed by Fortem) that will be installed at the homes of the customers will be a 7.4kW unit. It is a Delta unit and can charge the battery completely in 6 to 8 hours.
  • The DC Superfast Charger can charge up the battery of the vehicle up to 80 percent in just 40 minutes. These will be installed at selected dealerships and will be available 24x7 on a payment basis. The 50kW charging stations can be found out using the MG iSmart app.
  • MG has announced that the battery pack on the ZS EV is IP67 rated and hence, gets protection against just and water. The company has also announced that it is the only OEM globally to invest in our own batteries plant.
  • The MG ZS EV electric SUV is faster than its only competitor - the Hyundai Kona electric. The ZS can do a sprint from 0 to 100kmph in 8.5 seconds. The Kona, in comparison, takes over 9 seconds to do the same. The MG ZS EV has been tested for over 1 lakh km in India.
  • MG Motor India has partnered with battery exicom for battery recycling. Below is the Second life battery program. Also, the MG ZS EV gets an in built air purifier, well, a boon for customers residing in Delhi NCR.
  • ZS EV gets iSmart 2.0 connected car system and it is an evolution over the Hector's unit.
  • The Sunroof covers 90 percent of the roof on the ZS EV.
  • The upcoming MG ZS EV electric SUV will be launched in India in the month of January 2020. The vehicle is expected to be launched at an expected price of close to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • MG Motor India will showcase multiple new electric vehicles at the 2020 Auto Expo that is scheduled to take place in February 2020 next month. As already mentioned, the ZS EV electric SUV will be sold in five Indian cities - Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi-NCR , Bengaluru and Hyderabad during the initial phase.

Re: MG EZS electric SUV to be built in India

was hoping for an exact date from when it is available and the price, not sure why they didn't do both. Almost all other info was available before itself.

The ZS EV brochure for SriLanka shows 435KM range for 60kmph constant speed. So Arai rating must be equal or more than 435KM.
At the event today claimed range of Zs EV in India is 340 km and in Sri Lanka, it's 337km (image for reference).

Re: MG EZS electric SUV to be built in India

Why is the ARAI range lesser than the Kona when the battery pack in larger? Even the motor output is similar. Is it down to the weight or the performance? The range is seriously disappointing. Kona in real life will give around 300 kms of range and i don't expect eZS to offer more than 225-230 kms.

Re: MG EZS electric SUV to be built in India

Received the pics and brochure from the Sales team at MG.
The range of 340Kms is ARAI certified which is disappointing as Kona offer 452Kms ARAI range.

This link will give us better insight on the range of Hyundai Kona in context to the Indian conditions :

https://www.teslaclub.in/post/kona-e...rip-experience If Kona is driven at 80 km/h it can even do a better range.

While there may be multiple reasons for range difference of Zs Ev vs Kona, but various owners have updated that Zs Ev can go up to 300 km on Single Charge, sharing a link :

Re: MG EZS electric SUV to be built in India

Fantastic! I have been eagerly waiting for the launch of the eZS. Reviews from the UK are largely positive. This car seems to be a lot more practical than the Kona. Would make eminent sense as a daily driver.

The Kona is too small and the high floor makes for uncomfortable seating.

The eZS seems to be much better on space and seating; feels a lot more premium too!

https://www.autocarindia.com/car-new...parison-415169

Autocar has done a specifications comparison in the above link. Interestingly, the Kona is slightly heavier than the eZS despite being smaller in dimensions and having a smaller battery pack.

Re: MG EZS electric SUV to be built in India

Excited!!!

I like the way they were mentioning Tesla and Elon Musk every now and then. That means they are serious about electrification. And a few times Rajeev Chabba mentioned its better than the Hector as well.

Electric Vehicle revolution in passenger car segment has officially started.

I wonder where the 'self appointed EV pioneer' Mahindra are with their plans for a decent passenger EV.

I hope all the whining about 'infrastructure not existing' will die out soon.

Re: MG EZS electric SUV to be built in India

What I loved about MG's approach is the seriousness with which they're focusing on EV infrastructure.

They're providing fast chargers at their dealerships, installing a home charger for people, planning to install chargers across India ( they're pushing others to do the same as well) and providing a facility of charging vans to charge on the go / provide roadside assistance if you're battery is dead.

And their target isn't a paltry 40-50 cars a month , they plan to sell 3k cars a year, which is ambitious.

They have a game plan and they've got a head start.
