| ![]() MG has announced that its upcoming electric SUV, the MG EZS will be manufactured in India at its Gujarat facility. ![]() Spy images suggest that MG has already started testing the EZS on Indian roads ahead of its launch in December 2019. The MG EZS is an all-electric, 5-seater compact SUV based on the MG ZS. It is expected to be powered by a 52.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, that is claimed to offer a maximum range of 350-400 km on a single charge. Recharging the battery to its full capacity is expected to take around 8 hours using a wall charger. MG has so far invested Rs. 2,200 crore to setup a new assembly line, press shop, body shop, parts distribution centre, testing and training facilities in India. It's first product for the Indian market will be launched later this month. Link to Team-BHP News |

| ![]() It makes sense to start their innings in a nascent segment and build from there. SAIC's experience as one the largest EV maker in China could help. But an electric SUV for India could well be ahead of it's time considering the infrastructure support we have. I am curious to know why all initial test reports of the EZS points to 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery in other markets while the Indian variant is reported to be 52.5 kWh. |

Team-BHP Support ![]() ![]() | ![]() This is a big differentiator, even though not a mass market product! Believe everyone in the industry was expecting MG to come up with a CKD launch as a brand building exercise, whereas a locally built product might just allow them to launch the first real competitively (comparatively) priced electric SUV in the market. The timing of this announcement isn't a coincidence as well. As per media reports, Hyundai is readying the electric Kona to be launched as a CKD in the market - and MG surely wants to cash in on their publicity as well. |

| ![]() A 5-seater electric compact SUV that is not CKD and offers 350+ km range ticks far too many boxes to ignore. Really looking forward to this now! |

| ![]() Its a good sign that at least few automakers are attempting a Top Down approach in EV space. With owners of these products residing mostly in separate houses, installing 32A wall chargers won't be a hassle for them. Also these customers are the ones who are going to contribute significantly towards increasing the road presence of high range EVs. Performance & Maintenance will need to be monitored especially when it comes to an EV running in a tropical zone like India. Instead of relying on Strong Hybrids as a stepping stone to EV (as per Japanese automakers), introduction of such high-performance EV will no doubt create the space of its own in Indian market, thereby urging other players to expand network of fast chargers & suppliers to increase their EV component base. |

Team-BHP Support ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow, this is really something. If we ignore the half-baked E2O & e-Verito, this will be the first proper electric car to be built (rather, assembled) in India. No confirmed news whether the Hyundai Kona will be a CBU or CKD yet. Even if it's 2nd after the Hyundai, that is still something ![]() This will be an incredible brand-building exercise for MG. It'll instantly make the brand "cool" in the eyes of the moneyed. Although I remain a high-revving fan, I am really looking forward to comprehensively testing the EZS & Kona, in our typical Official Review way ![]() |

EVs are the main reason I am more excited about Chinese brands like SAIC (MG motors), Great Wall Motors, Chery, etc... entering India. They will bring the much needed competition and variations to the EV market.

1. They currently have their hands full with the Hector. 2. Will give them something new to showcase at the Auto Expo. 3. Fresh buzz & PR for 2020. Hector has generated enough of it for 2019.

| ![]() Source : https://m.indianautosblog.com/morris...-media-p318450 MG Motor India is going to launch the eZS as its second product in December this year. The eZS has been spotted on several occasions in the past during road tests. The company has teased the B-SUV on its social media handle with the caption "EVen against the odds" - indirectly promoting the usage of EVs during the upcoming 'Odd-Even' rule which will be re-implemented in the capital city from 4-15 November 2019.
