According to a media report, BMW is working on an electric version of the next-generation 7-Series. The 7-Series could also get a new design language on the inside and the outside.



The electric version of the 7-Series is expected to be called the i7. It could get at least three different battery packs and different power outputs. The battery packs could start at 80 kWh and could go to more than 120 kWh. The report also suggests that the car could have a range of around 700 km and the power output could be around 650 BHP for the most powerful variant.

The BMW i7 could be launched by the end of 2021 or in 2022. It is expected to compete with electric variants of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the Jaguar XJ.

Those are stupendous numbers. It will of course come with a massive premium.
Maybe they could also add solar panels to that front grill considering the amount of real estate it will cover in the next Gen 7.

Allegedly, the car’s battery pack could offer up to 400 miles (644 kilometers of range). BMW likely won’t confirm these details anytime soon and don’t expect the i7 to arrive until 2022

2023 BMW i7 teased during Acoustic testing ahead of world premiere.

BMW to make the i7’s cabin as quiet as possible, with foam absorbers in the tyres, special mounts for the electric motors and flush door handles.

Even the mandatory pedestrian protection sound is being fine-tuned, as are the artificial "engine" noises inside, co-developed with Hollywood film music composer Hans Zimmer.

The trim level of a BMW i7 sedan is confirmed and some cabin features are revealed

- BMW i7 xDrive60 Name and Options Confirmed by BMW USA: BMW i7 will get an xDrive60 Sedan trim level

-The i7 will have a maximum range of around 300 miles (483 kilometers), though the automaker noted that this is only an estimate using BMW AG's initial tests based on EPA testing procedure standards.
- Other details on the website include the glass headlights and the illuminated kidney grille, both found in other recent BMWs.
-BMW's cinema screen, which was shown at CES 2022, will also debut on the i7 xDrive60 Sedan.
-The 31-inch display comes with 5G connectivity, resolution up to 8K and is integrated with a high-end sound system.

2022 BMW i7 prototype review

Big electric-powered BMW saloon impresses with its brisk performance, overall agility and outstanding refinement. Still, there’s a lot here to still to learn

The i7 is the technological spearhead of the upcoming Mk7 (G70) 7 Series and BMW’s largest and most luxurious electric car to date.

the prototype we drove on public roads was fully camouflaged, so there is not a lot we can be told

Unlike the EQS, which is based on a dedicated EV platform, the i7 builds off the same CLAR structure used by ICE-powered 7 Series models.

As a result, the interior floor is not completely flat, with a transmission tunnel running backwards through the cabin. BMW has also modified the floor pan to house the 111.5kWh battery, which operates at 400V and can be charged at up to 195kW.

The i7 still needs some development work before a final sign-off and a start to production. The drivetrain of the prototype driven here mirrors the iX’s, with one electric motor up front and a larger, more powerful motor at the rear.

As much as I like the design and futuristic elements, they went back in time with 400v battery architecture when future is 800v. Looks like they are only competing with Tesla when the whole industry is starting to move ahead leaving Tesla behind.
