Honda e electric hatchback unveiled in production form

Honda has unveiled the production version of the e electric hatchback. The car will make its public debut at the 2019 Frankfurt motor show.

The car looks largely similar to the prototype shown at the Geneva Motor Show, which was held in March 2019. Some features seen on the prototype, like the illuminated grille badge, have been removed.

The car has pop-out door handles and a Side Camera Mirror System instead of conventional ORVMs. The system provides live images to two six-inch screens inside the vehicle. On the inside, the car gets two 12.3-inch touchscreen systems.

The Honda e is powered by an electric motor available in two states of tune - 134 BHP and 152 BHP. Its torque is rated at 315 Nm. The car gets a 35.5 kWh battery and its range is claimed to be 220 km. According to Honda, with fast charging, the battery can be charged to 80% in 30 minutes.

The electric car comes with Honda Personal Assistant service and a smartphone application which can be used to lock/unlock the car and access navigation, detailed vehicle condition report, remote climate control, security and location monitoring, battery charge control and range monitor.

Honda is planning to electrify 100% of its European automobile sales by 2025.

Such a cute little thing! Definitely gives a retro vibe mimicking the good old Honda N600 hatchback! Especially like the screen integration in the dashboard and the positioning of the rear view mirror cameras in almost the driver's line of sight. Great move Honda. Way to go

Love the cute & retro design ! In fact, this is perhaps the first new Honda whose styling I appreciate. They've otherwise gone so weird & quirky.

These kind of specs sound just perfect for India! Come on, Honda India. Get a bit aggressive & bring the e here.

The kind of specs, yes! The kind of expected price, no! And hopefully, this is proved wrong upon launch!

While the pricing is not revealed yet - the speculations are that it should start somewhere around £30,000 in the UK (26.3L upwards!). Honda has compared the E-electric to apple products in terms of market positioning that they are aiming at!

In comparison, the Hyundai Kona and MG ZS-EV both have much better specs at a much cheaper price even in the UK.

Specs seems to be spot on. The price though seems to be a completely different story altogether.

Is it just me or does anyone else here notice that the screens are sitting on top of the dashboard and looks like its above the windshield!!

Honda is trying to pull off a big bet by position itself as a high end EV maker. Not sure how EV market will rejig the current car industry positioning. Will be interesting to see it unfolding.

Aww, This little thing, looks cool yet retro. Can't stop me from opening this thread and had a look at it, n times to appreciate the design that will for sure age really really well.

Dear Honda, please facelift the Brio with this body shell ~80 percent similar to see that it will fly off the shelves. Am I asking for more?

I'm sure this would sell even if priced at 15 lakhs here in India. I would definitely line-up for one at that cost, but I doubt Honda or anybody for that matter seriously cares what we are sold over here.

A beautiful looking car. Earlier, normal cars were simple and Beautiful and electric cars were quirky. Now the normal cars are quirky and the future electric cars are getting beautiful. The Peugeot e legend and now this Honda e. Somehow this reminds me of the famous German vintage car Trabant.

Re: Honda e electric hatchback unveiled in production form

I'd caught a short first-drive video on youtube a month or so ago. I was so attracted to the car that if it were available in India, I'd have bought two!

Prices have been announced.

Ranges from 26,160 pounds for the base version to 28,660 pounds for the higher-powered e Advance. ~26L showroom price for the top-end version in INR. This is inclusive of a 3500 pound grant from the UK government on electric vehicles, post which prices could be raised accordingly - as per Honda UK.

Target is only to sell about 10k units a year in the EU.

Lovely specs! Would make for a great premium city run about for 12-15 lakhs if they launch it here.

Although I'm still skeptical about the cameras replacing the mirror. It's just an unnecessary gimmick IMO.

Cheers!

Re: Honda e electric hatchback unveiled in production form

Honda is evaluating its EV for India, provided the infrastructure and demand picks up. Will have a wait and watch policy.
