I suspect this one to be an EV for reasons,

1) there's no visible exhaust pipe
2) The front grille is completely covered only the airdam inlet is open
3) LED Tail-Lamps used to reduce battery usage (wrt to conventional bulb)

The Grille opening is important for the air to cool the radiator / engine area

Mostly likely debut by 2020 Q3 primarily targeting Fleet OLA / Uber .... while competitors Hyundai & Mahindra are investing in these companies, MSIL will once again take the lead by supplying models at dead cheap cost

I wonder what percentage of WagonRs sold have never exceeded 200 km in one calendar day. If it has real world range of 200 km and good low end torque, and sub 8L price, they will fly out of shelf. I'll be first one of the list myself.

Just like the new XL6, the premium variant of the Wagon R will be differentiated from the donor vehicle with more stylish exteriors and advanced equipment. It is also said to be a NEXA product.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R electric will not be launched in India in 2020

Maruti Suzuki has revealed that it would not commercially launch the Wagon R electric vehicle in 2020. As of now, the launch has been delayed to 2021. The company has cited a lack of charging infrastructure and the high cost as one of the main reasons to postpone the launch of its first electric vehicle in the country.

Maruti Suzuki has been extensively testing a batch of 50 Wagon R EVs which have been imported from Japan. These vehicles will now go to the next stage of trials and testing next year and will not be at a stage where they can be sold commercially to individuals. The company further adds that under the FAME 2 scheme, subsidy on electric vehicles is available only for shared fleet owners.

Yet another instance of Suzuki playing the wait and watch game rather than lead from the front. This will have repercussions on their entire electric car program.

As the market leader, I had hoped they'll be taking the initiative to set up infrastructure and develop an ecosystem.

I sincerely hope they think of a different name. "Futuro" sounds so much Mahindra CV category! And EV aren't anything future at all. If anything, Maruti is "Lato" on this bandwagon.
