Maruti Suzuki EV on test,

Quote:
Reports say that it will be called Maruti XL5 and that it will be sold only to fleet customers such as cab operators and EESL initially. The slowdown in the industry seems to have deferred the launch for private customers.
Quote:
In comparison to the Maruti WagonR, the spied test mule features bigger, 15-inch alloy wheels which have been borrowed from the Maruti Ignis, a unique front-end with split headlamps and distinctive upper grille, lower grille, bumper and fog lamps as well. Differences at the rear seem to be high-mounted stop lamp and clear-lens, LED tail lamps.

Quote:
There is a chance that the model spied may be launched in two versions, a conventional ICE version and an all-electric version. The former would use the BS-VI K12M four-cylinder engine which delivers 61 kW (82.94 PS) of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at 4,200 rpm. 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual would be the transmission options.

Maruti Suzuki keeps silently testing its EV, could surprise a launch much earlier than expected.

To be initially available to fleet owners it will eventually retail through NEXA for private buyers.

Quote:
The Maruti WagonR EV could be sold as the XL5. Initially, the new model will be supplied to fleet owners and EESL. However, at a later stage, the electric car could be sold at NEXA outlets to private car buyers. While the company has been pretty tight-lipped on the launch date, it does look like the new model would debut ahead of the introduction of the Renault Kwid EV

The upcoming Maruti Wagon R-based EV will feature a Lithium-Ion battery that will be sourced from TDSG, which is country’s first-ever Lithium-ion battery producer - Link

Maruti's WagonR based was spied on tests just before the lockdown.

Coming in 2021, the EV will initally be available to fleet operators' only before offering to mass market.

Will have a split headlamp design, much like many modern SUVs. The front grille design is also different, and even the bumpers and foglamp housings are new. At the rear, the car will sport LED fixtures in the X-mas-style tail lamp clusters. The 15-inch alloy wheels on this test mule come are same in design as those of the Maruti Ignis.

Maruti's EV spied again:

Quote:
The XL5 will feature a new front end, with vertically split headlights and new grille design. At the sides, we’ll see new alloy wheels. The rear portion of the car will feature high-mounted taillights, partially integrated into the C-pillar, and a new bumper design as well. Overall, this design looks far more handsome than the regular Wagon R we currently have on sale in India.

While the chances of this being an EV are not 100%, it can also be the regular XL5. But the absence of an exhaust pipe hints towards an EV.

Maybe Folks at Maruti plant are using this for nearby grocery runs, since the same car has been running around that area for ages and we haven't heard any development on this car.

Will they ever bring this to market, seems like they are testing this from eternity. Hope they have better battery, ~30kwh at a cheaper price.
