re: Camouflaged Maruti WagonR spied | Is this the electric version? EDIT: Axed, but testing continues

For Maruti Suzuki, EVs Are One Option To Go Green, in addition the company will be:

- has two objectives to go green, for which it's eyeing multiple technologies.

- would include ICE engine improvement, electrification and hybrid, natural gas and bio fuels.

- the company will respond to the government’s programme on blending ethanol with transportation fuels, and are also evaluating biofuels.

Quote:
Different segments might respond to different technologies simultaneously and we'll be pursuing all of them in a manner which will give us highest returns
On EV's:

Quote:
testing for the prototype( WagonR) will begin next month along with Toyota to get consumer feedback on user patterns, among other factors. Maruti’s parent, Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp., partnered Toyota Motor Corp. last week to help develop a new range of electric vehicles.

Could this be the cheapest mainstream EV for india? Seen uncamouflaged in latest pics.

Maruti stopped manufacturing diesel cars post the implementation of BS6 emission norms and has been promoting both petrol and CNG models for the past few years. Their next take could be on the EV segment which currently is in the + INR 10 lakh segment.

I am pretty sure this is that one working model of Wagon R electric, which they have in plant and employees take it out for grocery run or to buy some spare parts.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV axed.

Quote:
WagonR EV would have costed around Rs 10 lakh
Maruti was skeptical about the sales volume
Automaker will, instead, make EVs that can justify the premium over petrol, diesel cars
Quote:
The truth is that there was no business case for a battery-powered WagonR, which would have had to be priced around 60 percent higher than the petrol equivalent for it to be profitable. A WagonR EV upwards of Rs 10 lakh would have clearly been a non-starter. Even the company had begun expressing apprehensions about its sales volumes, and it announced last year that its first electric car would instead be launched by 2025.

re: Camouflaged Maruti WagonR spied | Is this the electric version? EDIT: Axed, but testing continues

The WagonR EV's plans have been ON-OFF more than actual EV car chargers. Quite intriguing to see how MSIL is approaching this. If this shelving is indeed true, I'm a bit surprised. Guess they have not been able to make a sufficiently peppy car with good range balance. The larger segment already has Nexon, ZS and other planned cars enroute.

What the market really needs - is a compact city EV or EV 2nd car in a household, that takes care of all daily runs within city. In the congested urban areas, nothing like a compact fast EV - and we don't have one. (Nearest one is the Tigor.) Basically a perfect replacement for them Altos, WagonRs, Tiagos n the lot. I was convinced that MSIL will throw the ace in the pack in the form of a WagonR EV to be honest. Would have established it exactly like the ICE WagonR rules its segments, for decades to come.

A bit disappointed to see it if this news is true. Perhaps Tata managed to price the Tigor competitively enough with 4 star safety rating, taking away a USP from MSIL?

Why is Maruti Suzuki testing the WagonR again? EV or something else?

Maruti continues its testing of the WagonR EV.

With robust testing underway the EV is expected to be launched in late 2024.

Will likely be one of the many EV's slated by Maruti from late 2024.

This will be the low-cost EV with an expected driving range of `~ 200 km.

This is good news and could be a game changer, subject to the definition of "low cost EV". How many lakhs is the threshhold for low cost in the EV world?

this will be the real people's ev if priced around 12 lakhs.
The fit and finish of Suzuki cars still trumps the tata and mahindra vehicles, though both have improved by leaps and bounds.
A simple practical design unlike the overboard designs presented by some of the other manufacturers.
Why they are going so slow is a mystery though ?

Maruti Suzuki to enter small car EV race in 2026-27.

EV hatchback will be based on all-new skateboard platform with high levels of localisation to meet the sub-Rs 12 lakh price.
