Default Tesla supercharger station catches fire

Tesla supercharger station catches fire in New Jersey

A Tesla Supercharger station in New Jersey caught fire due to unknown reasons and the Electric Vehicle (EV) maker is investigating the situation.

The blaze broke out at a Tesla Supercharger station situated at a Wawa convenience store in Parsippany, New Jersey.

Wawa is a chain of convenience stores and fuel stations that has partnered with Tesla to provide Supercharger locations.

Quote:
"Tesla had an issue with their cabinet and the power has been shut off while they are investigating. Our store was unaffected as it is on a completely separate power line," a Wawa spokesperson was quoted as saying in the report.
Such incidents are not new. Earlier in June, a Tesla Model S car stationed at a Supercharger station in Antwerp, Belgium caught fire while hooked up to a charger without any apparent reason.

Over the past few decades, there have been a significant number of explosions and fires at Gas stations and in the more recent decades, even at CNG stations.
Somehow however, none of these get the kind of attention and scrutiny as any incident with anything remotely connected to Electric mobility.

I'm not saying that such incidents, even freak ones, are desirable or acceptable, but only that they will continue to happen and shouldn't detract from the wider benefits of electric mobility. The technologies involved will mature and the incremental but huge cost of engineering additional safety and reliability into all components will take a while. I just hope that these few freak incidents don't snowball into a negative perception against electric mobility while it is still at an early adoption phase.

How can Gas stations explode without reason ? There has to be some human element involved. CNG with compressed pressurized gas might lead to some accidents (haven't heard in India).

Since its key to future transportation, people are more keen in following up electric mobility.

Fire department said this
"No vehicles were involved, it wasn’t the charging stations at all. It was a separate onsite transformer that sends power from JCP&L to the charging stations… Nothing to do really with the charging stations."

So basically it was nothing to do with Tesla or EV chargers.

Mainstream media reported the "Tesla fire" very well. Now that the cause was isolated to a nearby transformer and not the supercharger, these news articles are not updated, nor presented to the reader as "related news". Crazy world!
