Rumour: Kia Seltos EV coming in 2021

According to KIA specific blog THE KEEA, KIA is currently working on all-electric Seltos.

Highlights:

KIA Seltos EV will have the same drivtrain as Kia Soul EV, Niro and Hyundai Kona EVs, means 204-hp electric motor and a 64-kWh battery pack.

400+ kms real world range similar to Kona 64 kWh variant.

Production will begin in South Korea in August 2020 and expected to reach India and China markets in 2021.

Drivetrain and battery packs are same as the ones being used by both Hyundai and Kia in Kona, Soul and Niro EVs. 64 kWh and 150 KW motor are the highest configuration and available in major markets like US, UK and EU. Only India got the ~39 kWh battery option in terms of Kona.

I believe Kia also will bring this 39 kWh option for Seltos to India instead of 64 kWh variant as it will be much more costly. I also feel Kia made good decision to bring Seltos EV instead of Niro which looks a bit boring. Soul also looks weird and smaller than Seltos and may not be as successful here in India.

According to a media report, Kia could unveil an electric version of the Seltos SUV sometime in 2020.

The Seltos EV could share its powertrain with the Hyundai Kona EV. The Kona EV comes with by a 39.2 kWh battery and an electric motor putting out 134 BHP and 395 Nm. The Kona also gets a 64 kWh battery. In this variant, the electric motor produces 201 BHP and 395 Nm.

The Seltos EV could be restricted to Asian markets only. It is expected to go on sale first in South Korea, followed by India. It could also be sold in China.

The Kona is a damn good EV

Do note that it won't be a perfect EV though as, like the Kona, the Seltos was designed for conventional ICE engines. The "perfect EVs" are those meant to be electric from the ground up. Their packaging is something else.
