Out of these 2,636 charging stations, 1,633 will be fast-charging stations whereas the remaining 1,003 slow charging stations. About 14,000 chargers will be installed across the selected cities. Much needed initiative by GoI to instill confidence among the EV buyers, this reaffirms government's commitment towards ICE to EV transformation.

One charging station per every 4 square kilometer area, though not sufficient, is a step in right direction.

Much needed !

At least the government is moving in the right direction. The government has to build faith among the people and here's something positive.

An excellent move. The Govt should be lauded. More such steps will lay the foundation of a swift move to EVs. Disposal/Recycling of batteries is the next issue to tackle.

There are approx 55,000 petrols pumps in india, according to this source(not sure how legit it is): https://www.quora.com/How-many-petro...there-in-India

Hence targeting 5% of the petrol pump universe is not a bad start but I hope the planned locations are strategic. Metro cities should be given maximum priority as they would be early adopters of EVs.

A very commendable move by the Government. With the looming tension in the Middle East, electric is the way to go to reduce our reliance on Oil imports and shield us from international conflicts.
Fast charging stations strategically spread across major highways will help in faster adoption as it reduces range anxiety. Ideally the charging stations should be focussed on highways as most customer will have some sort of home charging infra in cities. A fast charging station at every 150KM-200KM distance will make EVs mainstream.

The government is doing its bit

Now, the industry needs to reciprocate by doing it's own (read: affordable, sustainable EVs at a mass scale).

Edit: adding a video link, showing one of China's largest "charging squares", to get an idea of the scheme of things:-

With the number of electric cars launching this year, this is a much-needed boost that could see a spurt in electric car sales. The Kona showed that electric cars are within reach and is the future.

Forget cars, this will also help bikes, scooters and buses, which are becoming more and more popular.

I just hope they keep both charging standards CHAdeMO and CCS, but going by previous reports, the stations are expected to have both. This should help all manufacturers till a standard is developed.
