The XC40 Recharge was unveiled in October 2019. It is the brand's first electric vehicle (EV). It comes with a dual-tone roof with Recharge badging and a closed grille. On the inside, it comes with an Android-powered touchscreen head-unit with Google Maps, Google Assistant, Play Store and Volvo On Call.

The XC40 Recharge has two 150 kW electric motors mounted on the front and rear axles. They produce 402 BHP and 659 Nm. Volvo claims that the car does 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.

The XC40 Recharge uses a 78 kWh battery that is claimed to offer a maximum range of more than 400 km (WLTP cycle). The battery can be recharged from 10% to 80% in 40 minutes using a fast charger.

After almost 6 months with a Kona and 3 years with a V40, I need no convincing on either the electric or Volvo front. If this is priced under 55L I’ll trade in my V40 in a heart beat and buy this.

Hope the price isn't exorbitant, somewhere between 55-65 will be great for that's kind of performance

Wow! Looks, technology, EV, Volvo's reputation, safety. This is certainly a car to keep an eye on for my next round of changes in 2022. I will be needing a small Electric SUV with good ground clearance. I always had a eye for the X40/V40 family looks. This just got even better.

We should be able to get some sort-of discounts eventually so that these EVs would be more or less the same as an on road ICE XC40(pre discount).

re: Volvo XC40 Recharge Electric SUV, now launched at Rs. 55.90 lakhs

I really hope they manage to price this around 50-60 Lakhs. But with the approximate on road cost of 1.6cr for the EQC, EVs from premium brands will make no sense unless they price their products right.

I'd rather put my money on Hyundai/Kia/MG for the best value. Kia e-Soul/e-Niro with that 64 kWh would be amazing if they price it under 35 lakhs. C'mon Kia!

It is a great product with amazing performance but Considering its pricing abroad, this car should be somewhere in the price range of ~1Cr which just makes it a brand building product for Volvo in India.

1Cr??? It is sold at nearly the same price range as the fuel powertrains in Europe so I think it will be between 40-50L ex showroom. Anymore and they will find no takers.

The all electric trim price in UK starts at 53,000 Pounds, which after duties and GST will land close to 1CR, thats how i have calculated it

re: Volvo XC40 Recharge Electric SUV, now launched at Rs. 55.90 lakhs

Volvo XC40 EV gets an EPA range of 335 kms.

Quote:
A recent range certification from United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has only given it 335 kilometres on a single charge, lower than some of the rivals it hopes to challenge.

It is reported that XC40 EV's performance in the EPA tests was unimpressive largely due to high energy consumption. This means that the EV will, at least from what the EPA tests have revealed, would struggle to mount a challenge to Tesla Model Y that has a range of around 490 to 500 kilomteres per charge.

Re: Electric Volvo XC40 to be unveiled on October 16, 2019

Spoke to Volvo today. The XC40 Recharge as they call their EV is expected in India around July 2021. It is one hell of a looker going by the photos. Its size, Volvo engineering make it perfect for my next buy in 2022 or 2023. With EVs I plan to wait till a year of their launch for glitches, exploding batteries, fire hazards, what happens if you drive through one foot of water etc to be known. Going by my satisfaction with my current Volvo, sticking to the brand has meaning even though their India management hate replying to letters.

Volvo is making great strides in the electric car department. Their latest line of polestars looks amazing and reviews have been great. And though, I hate to say this, after being taken over by the chinese company, we can expect greater innovations to be seen in their electric line up than if owned by the original owner.

The new Volvo C40 Recharge. A coupe version of the P8 SUV, it has identical dimensions to the SUV, plus a 78kWh battery with an estimated range of 260 miles. Same powertrain as P8 and Polestar 2, with a 201bhp motor mounted on each axle for a total of 402bhp.

I share similar sentiments about waiting for the niggles to be ironed out and am therefore looking at the same timelines. My current shortlist comprises the Volvo XC40 Recharge and the Tesla Model Y. I'm waiting to see if VAG throws any hats into this ring.
Incidentally, the Volvo dealer and service experience is apparently not-so-great in Chennai and Bangalore. I wonder if Volvo's plans to go direct (and online) could improve things
