I have faced this issue more than once over the last few months. However, the good news is that dealers are now fixing a new actuator cover for all Nexon EVs free of cost. It is not a "recall" per se, viz. they will do it at the next scheduled service instead of proactively calling customers in for the same. Mine was done during the second (6 month) free service earlier this week, and things have been good so far.

Just the kind of issues that create a bit of hesitancy to potential EV buyers

I was of the belief that this was endemic only to the Nexon. Thats a Tigor and if Tata has not fixed this issue yet it wouldn't be surprising if Tiago ev is also affected. I also noted that the charger is a Relux. But is this is the Relux+Tata issue causing the gun lock error or just Tata issue with the gun lock actuator going kaput?

Ideal solution is for Tata to provide a cable release for the charger gun lock inside the boot.

Re: Review: The Tata Nexon EV

Folks, after the recent (Prime) software updates to my Nexon EV, I've got the selectable regen feature which is great but it resets itself to level 1 every time I start the car, whereas my preferred setting is level 2. Anything I can do to retain the preferred setting?

Is the 4.5 lac price tag of the motor just way too much?

Pls understand that this price is at which Tata wants to or hopes to ‘sell’ the motor to the customer through its service center. Selling price doesn’t nearly reflect the actual manufacturing cost. It is standard practice in the automotive sector that the price of parts sold at service centers is marked by, by factors ranging from 2x to 10x. Companies know that they are selling to those who cannot go anywhere else, either for lack of availability of outside or for fear of loss of warranty.

Car companies and especially car dealerships don’t earn in selling you cars. They earn in selling you spares and services.

Re: Review: The Tata Nexon EV

The following ownership review video talks about issues that include,
  • the car not charging after driving in rain
  • ~ 2 seconds delay in moving the transmission between forward and reverse. Noticeable during 3-point turns
  • unusable sports mode without the traction control and the right tires
  • incorrect TPMS warnings
  • rear wipers not turning off unless turning the car off and on
  • accelerator pedal probably needs calibration to smoothly reverse the car on a steep incline
  • the usual unrealistic EV range claims
  • and the eternal quality, fit and finish issues that are associated with Tata vehicles

Have other owners experienced similar issues? Most of them seem to be fundamental design issues that were either not detected during the design phase or released with knowledge and no care.

A small EV like the Nexon would be a perfect replacement for our Ford Aspire AT, which hasn't even done 25K Kms in 6+ years but it seems Tata has a long way to go before inspiring confidence on the product quality and reliability front. Quality and reliability should be a certainty and not a probability.

Re: Review: The Tata Nexon EV

E Drive top cover will be deleted from Nexon EV XM, XZ+, XZ+ Dark edition.

It will be retained in top Trim (XZ+ LUX and XZ+ LUX Dark).

No change in Nexon EV Max.

However ,if any customer wants to add can add as a part replacement order cost is around ₹ 3500

Will be taking the delivery of a new Nexon EV Prime this week.
I had the same question about whether I'd be receiving the EV cover or not. Thankfully it is present in my vehicle.
It's a September 2022 manufactured Nexon Ev Prime Xz+ Dark Edition.

Engine cover will keep a lot of dust away from everything that's under it. Personal experience having driven without and then with the engine cover in my current vehicle as it too didn't have one (except in top variant).

"Stupid engine cover"
-Scotty Kilmer.

I bet he's not frowning over the usual dose of deletions from Tata. Come on Tata, we're finally seeing you as an aspirational marquee rather than taxis from the yesteryears. Don't be cheap!

Did not face this issue at all. Granted yes, this was the first monsoon with our Nexon EV (del. Nov’21) AFAIK, it is not a common issue.

Definitely feel so, could’ve been more responsive. I feel this whole Gear knob thing is a little difficult to use compared to simply having a conventional stick shifter (the ones which go forwards and back in linear fashion). For instance, the Polestar 2 unit.

I drive on and off (only when I’m back at home from hostel during holidays) and it’s a shame to admit I still have to look down while shifting.

Quote:

The default tyres are actually low rolling resistance spec iirc. I have not launched the car in sport ever, only ever so on the bypass when doing over 80 to get rid of the chime.

Quote:
incorrect TPMS warnings
The user manual says not to use N2 and only normal air. Seemingly interferes with sensors.

Not faced this so far despite mom getting nitrogen about 3-4 times before we realised this, yet no issues on our unit so far.

Quote:

Agreed, there is definitely a need for sensitivity adjustment. Although it’s not a dealbreaker.

Quote:
the usual unrealistic EV range claims
This should honestly not come as a surprise to anyone who has driven any car sold in India. The ARAI rating is hogwash and will always be more optimistic than achievable. It’s thus no wonder that just like claimed mileage, claimed range estimated do not match up in practical use.
